Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

Pretty 1920s cottage-style home in a Conservation Area overlooking a small, quiet park. Cosy traditional interior, with wood-burner. Walking distance to shops and railway station with frequent connections to Clapham Junction, Vauxhall, and Waterloo Station.
We prefer simultaneous exchanges with a single person or a couple. We welcome offers of short breaks to interesting and beautiful places throughout Europe; we are committed Europhiles.

Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

A tranquil enclave, away from the crowds, a 5-minute walk from Teddington Lock and the River Thames; yet plenty of excellent shops within walking/cycling distance; and a 40-minute train journey from the nearby station takes you to London's Waterloo Station and the cultural delights of the South Bank. We are surrounded by green open spaces - Bushy Park, Ham Common, Hampton Court, Richmond Park are all within walking/cycling distance, as well as many wonderful historic houses and galleries. Hampton Open-air Swimming pool (heated throughout the year) is a short bus ride or bike ride away, and there are indoor pools very close by. The Landmark Arts Centre has a variety of cultural offerings, and there are several local theatres that have come back to life in the wake of the pandemic. It is a fabulous base for cycling, and you are welcome to use our bikes or bring your own. We have lovely neighbours if you need help or would like to meet the locals.

Where to start? Hampton Court Palace and Gardens, Kew Gardens, Marble Hill House (free access for all, recently re-opened, delightful!), Strawberry Hill House, Orleans House and Gallery, Ham House, Turner's House, The National Archive: all within a short bike or bus ride. Wimbledon is a short train ride away, as is lovely Barnes Village with its Wetland Centre. Kingston-upon-Thames has a lively market, historic buildings and excellent riverside dining. Dorich House and Museum is a great favourite just outside Kingston. And of course the River Thames, five minutes away on foot. Our Preferences

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules

We are an almost-retired couple, and prefer to exchange with another couple or a single person. This is our main home, and is not really equipped for children (though we do occasionally make an exception). We are active amateur musicians (clarinet and violin), and sometimes like to stay somewhere we can take our instruments and practise without disturbing the neighbours, though this is not essential.

If you arrive with your own car, we have off-street parking. We are also a short bus-ride from Heathrow airport, or about an hour by tube and train from St Pancras International station for the Eurostar.

No rules, only a gentle request that people remove outdoor shoes when they come in to the house.
