We are a professional couple, both involved in education, well at one time. Mark is now retired and enjoys gardening, music, stamp collecting and cultural events. Teresa is a Professor at the Open University and enjoys her research, consultancy and teaching. Our children no longer live at home but abide in London and Paris currently.
We both enjoy travelling and good food and have a second home in the Dordogne, France.
We have done four exchanges and enjoyed holidays in Hawai, Cairns, Santa Cruz, and in Andalucia

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
Our large modern home is built in the style of Edward Lutyens as a Wealden Country Hall. It is exceptionally comfortable and well appointed and has five bedrooms on three floors.
It sits within the beautiful East Sussex countryside well away from busy roads; in a gloriously quiet spot. The picturesque village of Burwash is just 4 minutes away with a village grocer, butcher and newsagent, two ‘pubs’ and a church. We are only 1 hr 10mins to London by train. Tunbridge Wells with its historic Pantiles and excellent shopping and restaurants is just half an hour away, it is an eighteenth century spa town with some very quaint parts. Historic Hastings is just half an hour away with its fishing boats and aquarium, and the delightful seaside towns of Rye and Eastbourne are also within easy reach. The world-famous National Trust has many local properties: castles and ancient gardens such as Bateman's (Rudyard Kiplings' house- 5 minutes away), Scotney Castle, Sisssinghurst (Vita Sackville West's home), Leeds Castle and Bodiam Castle - all simply stunning and nearby. There is horse riding, tennis, sailing, walking and plenty of opportunities for visiting stately homes and enjoying good food and English ale or wine in local restaurants or ‘pubs’ which we can recommend. In addition, Windsor Castle, Oxford, Cambridge and the Cotswolds are all possible destinations for a short break. We are just over an hour from the Channel ports of Dover and Folkestone, so a trip to France or Belgium for a day or a weekend is also an option. The Channel Tunnel enables you to drive through or the ferry takes a little over an hour.
There are fitted carpets throughout our calm but colourful home, with pictures and a mixture of antique and contemporary ornaments. The windows are mullioned, with a terrace along the back of the house covered with wisteria and ornamental hops growing over an oak pergola with hanging baskets above and flower-pots beneath. Our large garden has flowerbeds and a lawn stretching down to open countryside, all of which is designated an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Deer quite often graze the pasture next to the garden, it is a very peaceful private place.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Our neighbourhood is typical of rural England and has all the amenities you need for an enjoyable vacation. The locals are friendly, engaging and helpful. The countryside is woodland full of oak trees and deer, with pastures for farming separated by small rivers and brooks. There are lovely local pubs, golf courses, National Trust houses and castles aplenty on the doorstep and we are only just over an hour to vibrant London, and much less than that to historic towns such as Tunbridge Wells, Brighton , Lewis, Rye and Hastings.
In sum, our home offers a restful idyll with connections to France as well as myriad southern England hotspots.
