We are a family of four. We originate from the Scottish highlands and Aberdeenshire, but have lived in Edinburgh almost twenty years, so consider ourselves locals, it still amazes us that this city still has hidden experiences after all that time. We are often found enjoying some of the diverse neighbourhoods of Edinburgh, seeking out good restaurants, coffee, green space, time with our friends and trying to keep two young children entertained. We enjoy the outdoors and often head to the local hills to enjoy cycling and walking.

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
Our newly renovated loft apartment is situated in the heart of Edinburgh's historic Georgian New Town. It is on the doorstep of some of Edinburgh's best attractions, we are only 5 minutes walk to Princes Street and the City Centre.
The property is on the 4th floor of a traditional tenement building. There is one double bedroom with space for a single futon mattress on the floor and/or cot for infants. A lounge/dining room along with modern bathroom and kitchen. We often stay here with our own kids and they love it!
We have kept a modern, bright and airy feel to the decor, but inkeeping with the traditional nature of the building. The property is not overlooked by any others, which means not only does it stay filled with light through the day, but the views are great too and overlooks the famous Calton Hill.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Antigua Street is fairly typical of Georgian-era Edinburgh. The location couldn’t get any better for exploring the different sides on the city. To the rear of the apartment you have the very well-heeled New Town area of Edinburgh, with its grand Georgian Streets and (very) expensive properties. To the left is the bustling Leith Walk, heading all the way down to the historic Port of Leith, these days one of the “Worlds best hipster neighbourhoods”. To the right of you as you look out the front is central Edinburgh, with its shops, restaurants and bars.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
As one of the most famous cities in the world you won't be short of things to do in Edinburgh, here are some of our favourite areas nearby.
The New Town & Stockbridge
The area around the City Centre and to the rear of the loft is the Georgian period New Town. Even the residental areas in the New Town are worth visiting to experience the spectacular streets and grand architecture. Stockbridge in the new town is also a must see, with it’s many independent shops, bars and restaurants, it also has a market every Sunday from 9am onwards that we love to visit ourselves. If you want green space then you will also find the Royal Botanic Gardens on the edge of Stockbridge.
City Centre
Out the building to the right and up the hill takes you to the centre of the city, with many of its most famous attractions such as Calton Hill (which the loft looks out onto), Princes Street and Edinburgh Castle. Not only will you find many of the most famous landmarks of Edinburgh here but it’s the main shopping area with many major stores on Princes Street, George Street & Rose Street.
Leith
Out the building to the left and heading down Leith Walk towards the historic old port of the city you will find many local bars and restaurants, and the waterfront area itself is lovely to walk around. Leith is one of the most vibrant areas of nightlife in the city and is regularly cited as one of the worlds “most hipster neighbourhoods”.
Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
Generally we just ask that you please treat the apartment with the same care and respect with which you would treat your own property, please leave it clean and tidy, as you found it.
Please do not upset our neighbours by being noisy and disruptive or disrespectful. If we annoy them, then it becomes harder for us to make our apartment available for future guests.
