Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

Bungers is a spacious, single storey, light filled house, situated in the picturesque village of Thurlestone on the coast in the beautiful South Hams area of South Devon. It has an open plan kitchen and dining room with a through flow to the sitting room, study and hallway. There are three bedrooms, two doubles and a versatile bunk room that can sleep four children or two adults. One double has an en-suite shower room and there is a family bathroom with a shower over the bath as well as an additional lavatory off the utility room. The house has its own garden but we also have use of a beautiful, large communal garden below the old rectory. In front of the house there is a large south-facing patio with views over the sea and the rock with a hole in it that gives the village its name. There is also a raised terrace behind the house that gets the sun throughout the day. The house is situated at the end of a road and is both private and quiet. It has its own garage.

Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

The centre of Thurlestone is a typical 'olde world' village with a pub and shop and with the original cottages lining the main street leading up to the old church, parts of which date back to the 13th century. Bungers is situated in a more modern area but is only a three minute walk from the pub, shop and church. There is easy access to beautiful unspoilt beaches, a cliff top golf course with unlimited sea views and tennis courts. The coastal path runs along the side of the golf course, which was created in 1897, and is a walkers' paradise as it continues around the coastline. The market town of Kingsbridge with a mixture of supermarkets, small shops and a cinema is quarter of an hour away, as is Salcombe harbour with its jetty and moorings for sailing boats of all shapes and sizes. Restaurants and eateries abound, all providing fresh seafood from the local area. Plymouth, approximately 30 minutes away, is the nearest city and boasts a fine theatre amongst other attractions.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home

Surfing, windsurfing, kayaking are all available a short distance away. There are many golf courses in the area including Bigbury just across the estuary. Burgh Island, the setting for an Agatha Christie film, is accessed at high tide by a large sea-going tractor. The Beach House, a twenty minute walk along the coast welcomes children of all ages while adults can dine as the sun sets, having taken their own wine if they wish. The quaint town of Dartmouth, a 40 minute drive away, is well worth a visit. From there one can take the steam train that passes Agatha Christie's house. For those who enjoy hiking, as well as the coastal path and many other nearby walks, beautiful Dartmoor is less than an hour away. The National Trust garden at Overbecks in Salcombe is worth a visit for garden lovers. In Salcombe one can rent a boat, go on a mackerel fishing trip or simply take a relaxed evening trip up the estuary. There are a number of National Trust properties in the area.
