We had a lovely stay at John and Marilyn's house which is situated in a beautiful countryside location. We very much enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub and sitting in the garden admiring the views. It's a great location for exploring the Lake District without being too close to the summer crowds. A lovely house with plenty of history and original features and lovely comfy beds :-). John and Marilyn were great to deal with throughout with lots of communication whenever we needed it. Thank you!

This was our first house swap and John and Marilyn proved to be the perfect couple to introduce us to this brilliant idea. Their house was delightful and the location stunning. They left comprehensive instructions re the house and good suggestions of things to do. The area is beautiful and we although the weather wasn't great we walked and toured and had no problems finding plenty to do. Jim and I would really recommend this area and John and Marilyn and their beautiful Old Post Office. Thank you both Dinah

Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

17th century country cottage. Wonderful countryside, glorious views of the Pennine hills and great walks from our door. Recent exchangers described our area as "fantastically beautiful!"

On the ground floor are a dining room, large living room, kitchen, small conservatory and bathroom, shower over bath, WC and washbasin.
Upstairs are 2 bedrooms with double beds sharing access to a Jack and Jill ensuite shower room. The third bedroom has 2 single beds.

Outside are gardens on 3 sides, all with lovely views of the Pennines, lots of garden furniture and bikes.

We live in a tiny village 2 miles from the pretty market town of Appleby in Westmorland, in the beautiful, unspoilt Eden Valley, near the Lake District National Park....now a UNESCO World heritage site. Our nearest lake, (and in our view the most beautiful) is Ullswater, 30 minutes by car. Within an hour`s drive are the whole of the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales, Scotland, seaside resorts of the west coast and Hadrians Wall. Edinburgh & Glasgow are easy day trips.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

Brampton is a quiet peaceful small village in the Eden Valley, 20 minutes from the Lake District, great walks from our doorstep and beautiful views of the fells from our home and garden.
Our nearest shops, pubs and cafes are in Appleby, 2 miles away where you can also find the railway station which is a stop on the famous Settle - Carlisle railway which runs from Carlisle to the north, through the Yorkshire Dales National Park to Leeds, a wonderful shopping centre.

Attractions

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home

The Lake District, now a UNESCO world heritage site. The nearest lake is Ullswater, one of the unspoilt Northern Lakes.
The Eden valley........great walking on our doorstep.....visit High Cup Nick in the Pennines, made famous by Julia Bradbury in her walks.
York and the Yorkshire Dales. A wonderful day out by car or travel on the famous Settle-Carlisle railway from Appleby station over the Ribblehead Viaduct to Sttle or Skipton, or north to Carlisle, the great Border City.
Hadrians Wall....walk part if the Wall or spend time visiting the wonderful museums along the Wall, the Roman Army Museum or Vindolanda.
Scotland only 45 minutes to the border...1st stop Gretna Green and the Old Blacksmith Visitor Centre......or Edinburgh by train for a day via Appleby and Carlisle.
