Read More...We appreciated the very nice, spacious and modernly renovated farmhouse in the middle of the lovely and green landscape of Norfolk. When we arrived in Shotesham we got useful information and were shown how to feed the really lovely cat and the ducks which complete the picturesque atmosphere of house and garden. We spent our time exploring the nearby city of Norwich, we even went to see a footballgame in the local stadium. If you come visit Norfolk, hire a boat as we did, and cruise around the Broads. We also were able to use 4 bikes of the family in order to ride along the cornfields or take a walk on the many footpaths. So anyone will enjoy this friendly family, the beautiful house, garden with the many flowers and the lovely area of Norfolk. Thanks Nick and Catherine

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
One of Norfolk's most beautiful barn conversions, this former cow shed has three spacious wings with full length windows looking onto courtyards, a pond, garden, garage and separate studio games room, this house combines modern comforts with rural charm. The exposed stone and wood floors in the kitchen and living areas all benefit from under floor heating and there is a large wood burner in the main dining and sitting area, making this a snug winter residence. A study gives a separate space for sitting and there is also a covered veranda. The house borders a quiet farm yard on one side and a beautiful farm house on the other, with distant views to the valley below to the west and an outlook over the pond and garden to the east. There are lovely cycle rides and walks straight from the house with the beautiful city of Norwich, the Norfolk Broads and a multitude of splendid beaches all within easy day trip distance. The local village has a beautiful church with meadows and a pup, while a number of renowned pubs and restaurants are within easy reach.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
This a peaceful rural hamlet, based around a former farm. There are a number of neighbours nearby who are all friendly and helpful. The village has a lovely community and the centre is about a mile's walk away. The countryside is gentling undulating with a river in the valley and lots of small lanes, woods and fields. The nearest shops and cafes are only about 10 minutes away by bicycle or a very short drive. The pub in the village takes about 20 minutes to walk to and there is a lovely footpath route as well as along the lane.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
From our house it take about 20 minutes to drive into Norwich, which is a lovely city boasting a huge range of attractions and the best shopping in the region. Closer to hand are a number of country or village pubs, a bakery, cafe and delicattessant. The Norfolk broads are about a 20 minute drive away and the lovely sandy beaches at Southwold take about 45 minutes to drive to. There are also much bigger and wilder beaches about a 45 minute drive away north of Great Yarmouth, including a number where seals are regularly spotted. Winterton has a great cafe and miles of sandy beach, for example. To the west, Thetford forest includes cycling areas, a high ropes course and a vast forest, and takes about 45 minutes to drive to. The north coast of Norfolk, with its sea marshes and wild beaches is about a one hour drive.

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
Our house is very suitable for families, though we do have a gentle ginger cat, Maisie so no dogs or other animals can come. A cat-sitter can come and do feeding and litter changes if needed. Otherwise, she is very friendly and easy to care for. The house comes with a cleaner. It is quite newly converted so in very good condition, though the internal walls are all just covered with plasterboard and painted so are a little vulnerable. However, the stone floor in the kitchen is very practical and there is a large utility room. We would request that visitors do not smoke and take as good a care of it as we would take care of anyone else's house. If visitors can water all the pots in the courtyards each day that is great but it is also possible for a neighbour to come in and do this if visitors would prefer to be free of such responsibility.
