Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

Hello and welcome to my Victorian, (1840s) stone cottage situated on the World Heritage 'Jurassic' Coast on the Isle of Portland, Dorset, England. Balcony overlooking garden with close, extensive sea view. Wheelchair access to ground floor: kitchen, bathroom (bath not shower) / WC, lounge, single bedroom (alternatively a second lounge), small conservatory / kitchen extension with folding dining table, patio. Average 140Mbps fibre broadband internet. Second floor: double bedroom, hobby room overlooking the garden. Top floor: narrow stairs to attic room (storage) and the balcony. Garden: stone-paved patio facing eastwards, lawns, wildlife (unfenced) pond, lower lawn with fruit trees. Stone path to end garden formerly used for vegetables. There is also a stone building / workshop (solar panels on roof) which is unavailable because of insurance issues. The house has full central heating, double glazing. It also has secondary glazing on the windward / road side of the house. Full drying facilities useful for the sometimes quite exciting, stormy winter days. ('Welcome Home' is not painted on the house! It is to show which house it is!)

Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

My end-terrace, part-modernised, Victorian, cottage is in the seaside village of Southwell on the Isle of Portland, in the county of Dorset, England, UK. We are situated on the UNESCO World Heritage Site 'Jurassic Coast'. This is a very friendly, and particularly safe environment. The village is mostly quiet, except for summer weekends, when we get quite a few passing holiday makers - mainly walkers, birdwatchers, cyclists and people on their way to see the nearby lighthouses. We enjoy a peaceful, relaxed way of life in one of the mildest and sunniest parts of Britain. Southwell has a good restaurant and pub almost opposite the cottage. We have a church as well, and are two miles from the village of Easton where one finds, supermarkets, a health centre, pharmacy and all the amenities you are likely to need on a day-to-day basis. The Isle of Portland is seven miles from the popular holiday resort of Weymouth with a beautiful sandy beach. We have buses from our village to Weymouth approximately every ten minutes in the daytime. It is possible to take a direct train from Weymouth to London, some three hours away. Finally; Please be sure to see this stunning feature video about Portland by local historian Stuart Morris. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMWiVrvHQAIBj2G2e607utw There is unrestricted parking in our road. I will provide an information pack about the house facilities and the neighbouhood for you to check out on arrival.
