Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

This is an inner city multi cultural neighbourhood undergoing regeneration. The Elephant and Castle is busy as it is a major transport hub. However Henshaw Street is a cul de sac away from the main road and so is quiet and neighbours are friendly. There is a small park at the end of the street and the much bigger Burgess Park is 10 minute walk away. There is excellent public transport with tubes, buses, trains and bikes nearby, giving quick and easy access to main tourist sites and different parts of London. The South Bank with its wealth of concert halls, galleries (including the Tate Modern) theatres and cinemas, is a short bus ride away. Boats along the Thames can be taken from Bankside or London Bridge. The famous Borough Food Market in historic Southwark is 15 minutes on foot or a few minutes cycle. The Tower of London is a couple of miles away. The increasingly trendy Bermondsey High Street is easy to reach on foot and has lots of good cafes and restaurants and interesting shops.
