Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

Quiet cottage (finca) with terrace in Lanzarote (Canarian Islands) in a designed garden/park with stonewalls, vineyard, flowers, many different fruit trees (fruits depending on season like grapes, lemons, oranges, figs, mangos, mulberries to name a few), a herb garden, a lot of different thematically styled places where to sit and relax, mountain and sea views from the garden, privacy (no neighbours), car available. Ideal for relaxing, meditation, writing... The house has one floor, approximately 80m², containing 1 bedroom with a french bed (160x200), 1 office, 1 living/dining room, 1 separate kitchen, 1 bathroom with shower, toilet, washbasin and bidet. As far as the furniture is concerned, we have our personal style mix of antique and modern design, in combination with the Canarian cottage style. The house is situated on a lot of 24.500 sqm, whereof about 8.000 sqm are cultivated, right on the foot of the mountain of Tinache (450m altitude), 4 km from La Santa fishing village and beaches.

Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

"La Huerta" is situated on the very periphery of Tinajo, a non-touristic Canarian village with small supermarkets, fish and health food shop, bakeries, pharmacy, post office, pet shop, barber shops, rural bars/cafes, small brewery with local beer, several restaurants, filling station... You can walk/ jog around or climb up the vulcano Montaña Tinache next to the house (we also provide nordic walking sticks), as well as go for a swim in La Santa or to lonely beaches nearby. Also, there are opportunities for renting equipments for biking, diving, surfing as well. In our house book we provide you tips and guides for outdoor activities, places to go etc. Within the municipality of Tinajo there are the Timanfaya National Park, the National Park Los Volcanes, and the Vulcanologic Visitor's Centre. Also, the Agricultural Museum of Tiagua "El Patio" and the Peasant's Monument (Monumento al Campesino by César Manrique) is within a few minutes reach.

Attractions

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home

The island itself is unique amongst the Canarian Islands because of its stunning volcanic landscape in beautiful colours and shapes. There are black shores (breathtaking rocks and stones as well as sandy beaches) and still quiet and lonely beaches.
For example, the National Parks of Timanfaya and Los Volcanes, as well as the vineyard of La Geria are outstanding in the world. And of course, don't miss the Fundación César Manrique, the former residence of the artist, built into lava bubbles, as well as his numerous accessible artworks on the island such as Jameos del Agua, Mirador del Rio or El Jardín de Cactus - a ingenious combination of art, architecture and landscape with sustaining tourist attraction.

Our Preferences

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules

The basic idea of our house and garden is the realization of the combination of traditional rural life in lanzarote with contemporary comforts, asthetics and travel experiences. We love to find our house and garden as clean and tidy as it was when we left. We do the same and we always respect the belongings of others. In case you should accidently break something, please tell us frankly, we hate surprises :) Of course we have to find our cat alive and in good health and mood as well :) She's very kind with everybody and easy to handle. It is strictly forbidden (as well as in most places on the island) to throw anything into the toilet (paper, sanitary towels, cigarette stubs...), there is a bin provided. Smoking is not allowed in the house but feel free to do so on the terrace and in the garden, using the ashtrays provided. Feel free to eat from the fruits available, there are different juice extractors in the kitchen to make smoothies and juices. Depending on the length of your stay, we would ask you to gather the windfall or rotten fruits as well in a bucket and throw it into the normal garbage. Depending on season it could be required to apply an ecological plant protection product. The plants, of course, need to be watered, there is an automatic watering which has to be switched to water different parts of the garden. We kindly ask you to use the paths generally and not to step on the stone gardens. As for the vegetation in Lanzarote normally is very poor due to the water deficiency, the soil is usually covered with black or red granulated lava (so-called picón) to maintain the dew of the night. Thus, there is no lawn to mew, but the leaves should be raked from time to time to keep the seatings inviting. Please understand that this is our residence and not a holiday home: no parties, no additional guests, no children, no pets.
