Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

Our home is a century-old apartment in the historic center of Madrid, within minutes of all the sights and attractions. It comprises 2 bedrooms + a very large study where another bed could be set up, a living room, dining room and kitchen and can host 6 people.

The apartment is fully furnished and has been recently renovated combining its historic character with industrial touches. It has high ceilings and lots of light through its many windows overlooking the Rastro street.

We have two cats that would need some attention during our absence (just feeding them and refilling their water bowl). Their litter is out in a balcony that they access through a catflap. We have a housekeeper that comes every few days and takes care of it.

Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

Our apartment is in the Lavapies neighbourhood, the trendy, multicultural, lively, young district right next to Puerta del Sol. Within Lavapies we live right on the main street where every weekend there's "El Rastro", a massive flea market that's been running for almost 300 years. In the quiet, pedestrian streets around the apartment there are lots of antique little shops all year around.

The traffic in the neighbourhood is restricted to residents only, so the streets are very quiet even though it is right in the city center. A couple hundred meters to the west there's the neighbourhood of La Latina, the oldest of the city, dating back centuries.

Attractions

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home

Our house is in a perfect location to visit pretty much every attraction in the city. The Museo del Prado and Museo Reina Sofía are 20 minutes away walking. Puerta del sol and Plaza Mayor are even closer than that. Walking south you can reach the Madrid-Rio park as well.

Lavapiés and La Latina host the best flamenco "tablaos" and lots and lots of restaurants, cafes, shops and community projects. If you enjoy short walks there's no need to ever use public transportation. This is also a central spot for art galleries and small theaters.

A few hundred metres away there's the Embajadores train station where you can connect to the network of trains going to all the nearby cities: Segovia, Toledo, Aranjuez, El Escorial and so on.

There are several festivities throughout the year: San Isidro in May, the neighborhood local festivities in August (3 weeks), for instance. On top of that, Madrid have several fantastic events such as the Gay Pride, the ARCO art fair, the FITUR tourism fair and the MADRID FUSION gastro fair, among others.

Our Preferences

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules

We don't have any out of the ordinary house rules, other than asking guests to leave the place as clean and tidy as they found it.

We have two cats that would require a little bit of attention: usually filling their dish and water bowl every 2-3 days.

We also have some plants that require addressing every few days.
