Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

We are looking for an exchange for 4 to 9 (or 12) July 2020, somewhere in Kent, just the two of us. Also, we are open to invitations for 2-3 weeks from 1 August onwards (Italy: from 25 July onwards) to any place in Europe that offers room for 5 people, us plus our adult son and daughter as well as our 16 year old, preferably near a beach, river, lake or good spa.

Half-timbered house of 1438 in historic city centre of Basel with a view on the river Rhine. A baroque spiral staircase connects 4 floors.
Ground floor: entrance area and living room with sofa-bed, sleeping two, a trap door leads to a tiny basement with washing machine and tumbler
1st floor: kitchen (in the hall) and dining room
2nd floor: Master bedroom, bathroom with shower, home office (actually just a desk in the tiny hall)
Attic: slatted frame with mattress, a Yamaha digital piano, and some playmobile.

We do have a blow-up spare bed which may sleep two more persons in the attic or dining room, but the house might be rather crowded with more than 5 people.
The house is tiny, just 66 sqm in total. Each floor has a different layout because floor 1 and 2 are standing out, as seen in many half timbered houses of the 14th century. The ceiling height varies from1,97 m to 2,10.

The street is closed to public traffic and offers no parking space. A tramway stop ist just down the road. The house is within 20 min. walking distance of both train stations. We have one single-speed bicycle. There is no garden, but a newly opened parc is just 1 min away (see last photo).

Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

The house is situated in the historic centre of Basel, 2 minutes to the cathedral, the river and the historic town hall and marketplace. Lots of tourists pass by the house every day and take photos of the historic building. In a few minutes you can cross the middle bridge and get to the river bank to go swimming. The city offers great museums and many more touristic attractions.
Our street is closed to traffic, except for loading and unloading in the morning. Unfortunately, there is no parking space whatsoever anywhere near our house. We recommend travelling to Basel by train/plane, or - if by car - to park in the outskirts of Basel and take a bus or tramway to reach the centre.
