Our completely renovated farmhouse overlooking the meadows is located on the edge of a rustic village in the middle of the green heart of Holland.
The house we live in used to be a cow barn. My grandfather had some 20 cows and my grandmother made her own cheese. My mother still lives in the front house. We transformed the back house into a home with all comfort of a modern house.
The Netherlands offers many possibilities for ART LOVERS. The MOST FAMOUS MUSEUMS of the Netherlands are all within reach:
* Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and Stedelijk museum all in Amsterdam, 65 km, 45min)
* Mauritshuis (The Hague; The Hague (66 km, 50 min)
* Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen (Rotterdam, ), Rotterdam (40 km, 35 min)
* Museum Het Catharijneconvent (Utrecht, 33 km , 30 min)
But don't forget to visit the Belgium cities: ANTWERP (100 km, 1h10m), BRUSSELS (150 km, 1h40m). The NORTH SEA BEACH (for example 's-Gravezande: 70 km, 50 min) is nice during a summer day

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Noordeloos is a small village in the middle of the 'Grean Heart' of Holland.
Our house situated at about 200 meters from the centre of the village, but has a unobstructed view over the meadows, populated with cows and sheep, intersected by ditches bordered by pollard willows.
The nearest super market is 6 km away, but nearly a lot of things you need can be bought in the village: vegetables, fruit, eggs and meat (even organic!) and milk

You can use our kayak or bikes to experience the tranquility of the countryside.
Kinderdijk (Unesco World Heritage!) is only 25 kilometers away. Dive into a world of windmills, water and willpower. The canals, mills and pumping stations of Kinderdijk have kept our feet dry for over 700 years. Board the tour boat, step inside the museum mills and discover the personal stories of the millers.If you go by bike, most of the route leads through quiet villages or quiet cycle paths. Gorinchem (10 km) was an important fortress in the Old and New Dutch Waterline. And the largest that is still completely intact. The ramparts run all the way around and give beautiful views over the rivers; unique in the Netherlands! See https://www.mooigorinchem.nl/nl
The centre of Dordrecht (25 km)looks and feels like Amsterdam: canals and ports with majestic houses. https://indordrecht.nl/en/see-do/
Museum van Gijn (http://www.huisvangijn.nl/) is unique:an ancient home at one of the ports looks as if the owner is just away to do some shopping. A visit can be combined with the Dordrechts Museum (http://www.dordrechtsmuseum.nl/) Every room has its own touchscreen to find our more of what can be seen. Nice for children too.
Our favourite restaurants
- Piazza Della Vita in Hoornaar, a small village nearby is an excellent place for the real Italian food. Not so much a pizzeria but more a trattoria
- Villa Augustus. Especially on a beautiful day a wonderful place to eat well and enjoy the beautiful gardens.
- De Giesser Wildeman. Our local restaurant with one Michelin star. Culinary enjoyment, where you feel at home. Special dishes, guided by the seasons. Not cheap, although they have a bistro too with moderate prices.
Special places to shop
- De Graanbuurt: an number of historic buildings, are full of unique shops. Each store has its own specialty. From pastry, jewelry, flowers and clothing to gift items, furniture, catering and a hair salon.
- HEMA offers original design products at surprisingly low prices: gifts & party, home & living stationery, cooking & dining, bedroom bathroom, hobby & leisure, clothing for baby, kids women & men. All items designed in Amsterdam since 1926
- Thrift shop, just an few houses further on the road. All proceeds are intended for a good cause
Leisure and cultural activities
- The Windmills of Kinderdijk are a must-see: Unesco World Heritage Site. Get on your bike or take the water bus. Don't forget to go to the visitor center in an old pumping station. If you search carefully you will find the name then my great-grandfath
- A day at the medieval castle Loevestein is a great adventure for young and old. Start the day with some goodies in the Tavern, and then explore the fortress and the castle. With two permanent and two temporary exhibitions, there is plenty to do.
- According to some, De Efteling is a more beautiful attraction park than Disney Paris... It's only 40 km away. You'll be there in no time!

- A walk in our own meadow!
- Alblasserwaard, the name our the area we live, is great for walking and cycling!

- Go out by water bus for a day and visit the port city of Rotterdam
- The icon of the Delta Works of the Netherlands is undoubtedly the Oosterscheldekering. For children, the water park is a nice attraction.
- Don't forget the beautiful cities of Belgium: Anwwerpen, Brussels, Ghent and Bruges. They are closer than you think!
