Hessel can't wait until he is old enough to quit school and travel around the world. He is a professional Minecraft builder, likes wandering in nature and makes marvelous drawings. Lieve dreams about visiting Paris and the Eiffeltower. She likes baking and drawing and is a talented future interior stylist. Teije wants to spend his summer holiday abroad. He likes building, drawing and swimming and especially playing with other kids.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
We live in a child-friendly neighbourhood in Alkmaar. There are lots of small playgrounds and at the other side of the road, there is a large park with a great big playground, tennis courts, soccer fields, basketball fields, a play-farm etc. A shopping mall with lots of shops and supermarkets is right nextdoor. Our house is within very easy reach by public transport (busstop almost in front of the house).
We live in Alkmaar, a beautiful, historic city all over the world known for its cheese market. The beaches of Bergen and Egmond are nearby (6 km and 9 km) and so is Amsterdam (48 km).

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
There is so much to do and to see from where we live! Alkmaar is a lovely historic city, well known all over the world for its famous cheese market on Fridays. Alkmaar is also in the top 10 of Dutch shopping cities; there are lots of restaurants and café's. From Alkmaar, you can easily visit Amsterdam, both by car of public transport. The beaches of Bergen and Egmond are very nearby (6 and 9 km). You can discover the beautiful Dutch landscape of polders, windmills, meadows and dunes best by bike or foot. In spring, the world-famous tulip fields are nearby. Or visit the isle of Texel, or one of the other Waddeneilanden! There are several amusement parks, animal gardens, musea etc. in the area.
