We are a young and active family of four, with two little girls (born in september 2020 and december 2021). Before we had children, we used to travel a lot, always looking for alternative ways to discover 'local life' and culture. In 2016-2017, we travelled a year on a bicycle and cycled from the Netherlands to Iran and also through Vietnam and Taiwan. Also, we both volunteered on different places around the world and lived in several cities. In 2018 we fell in love with this old house in the little, medieval town of Ravenstein in the Netherlands. We put a lot of effort and work in it as we reconstructed the whole house with respect to it's old elements. We are very proud of it and take good care of it. Now we enjoy this cosy place every day, as a family with our two little daughters. We would love to make others enjoy it as much as we do ánd we think home exchange would be a beautiful and new way of 'alternative travelling' for us as a young family.

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
Our house is an old house (17th century) in the old center of the beautiful medieval town of Ravenstein (in the Netherlands). We renovated it ourselves after we bought it in 2018 and finished the renovation in 2020. We are very proud of the bright, light and comfortable family house we created and would love to share it with other families via home exchange during our holidays.
There are two floors and a vide and a patio garden.
On the first floor you'll enter the hallway, from which you enter the living room. There's a big open kitchen with everything you need, and a dining table that easily seats 8 people (we like to cook and have friends and family over for dinner). From the kitchen, you can enter the patio garden, when you can have drinks and food in summer. We love to hang out there, especially in the sunny mornings and in the evening time surrounded by candles. Also you find a bathroom and laundry room with washing machine and dry cleaner in the back of the house.
On the second floor you'll find 3 bedrooms and one bathroom with shower and a separate toilet. The 'master bedroom' has a very comfy bed and a big window looking over the town. Then we have two little rooms where our two girls sleep. When exchanging homes with families with children, we could easily remove the baby cots and place a normal bed in both rooms. Another option for a bit older children (from the age of +/- 8 years) is to sleep upstairs on the 'vide' (attic), where you can find two comfy mattresses on the floor. Our nephews and nieces love to sleep up there, since it feels like 'camping' (it's just underneath the roof, which you can see on the picture). It's up to you and your children.
We have two good bicycles that you may use, as well as a SUP-board (stand up paddling) and an electric cargo bike.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Ravenstein is a medieval town in the centre of the Netherlands and our house is located in the beautiful old city centre. We live in a lovely neighbourhood in walking distance from several shops (supermarket, bakery, butcher's, winery, etc), several café's and restaurants and 300 m from the riverside. In summertime, we love to SUP or kano on the river and we often go there for a swim. The dikes and surroundings are beautiful for walking and cycling (all flat ;-)). Also, nature reserve 'the Maashorst' is only 5 km's away from our home, this is a beautiful area for mountainbiking, horse riding and there's a public swimming pool. There are lots of activities for children nearby.
We are surrounded by several medieval villages and small towns within 10 km from our town. Also, there is a train station on 10 min walking distance from our house. By train or by car, you can easily reach bigger cities like Nijmegen (15 min), Arnhem, Den Bosch (30 min), Utrecht, Breda (60 min) and Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Maastricht (75 min). We are at 1,5h driving from the beaches and 1 hour driving form national park The Veluwe.
