My husband Mark and I have been living in Cork for the past 30 years. We lived previously in the U.S. but I was born and raised in Cork. We are now both retired but work voluntarily on several boards. I worked as an educator and also an arts administrator and a book festival programmer. Mark worked as an electrical engineer. We have done exchanges in Australia, Tasmania, France, Germany, Wales, Ireland.. We are interested in an exchange for short or longterm and are particularly interested in Spain as Mark would like to perfect his Spanish. We are open to new adventures but enjoy exchanges in Ireland and the UK.

The house itself is lovely and peaceful and we were made to feel very welcome by Ann and Mark. Would definitely swap again!

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
We live in a cul de sac down a small road in a very attractive suburb. There are bicycle paths nearby that take you around a Marina where there are lovely cafes and pubs. Regular buses are available to downtown, which is about a 40 minute walk from our house. Our neighbourhood is one of the most sought after neighbourhoods in Cork. There are shops, a bakery, and a post office within a short walking distance from the house.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
One of our favourite activities is to drive or take a bus from the central bus station to Blarney. While the Blarney Stone is famous, and also the Blarney Woollen Mills, the grounds of Blarney Castle are very beautiful and we enjoy walking around there. There is a bus a five minute walk from our house to the train station where you can get regular trains to Dublin for a day trip. Cork is situated on a river but as we like to go to walk at the seaside, the nearest one, Crosshaven can be reached by bus and of course by car. Other day trips that we make include a trip to Killarney or the west Cork town of Clonakilty and the nearby beach of Inchydoney (a car would be needed for Inchydoney). The city of Cork itself is well worth a visit and is a beautiful city with arts centres, cinemas, pubs, restaurants and shops. It's a very lively city. Our favourite vegetarian restaurant is Cafe Paradiso, and for non vegetarian we particularly like The Glass Curtain and Pigalle. Our favourite lunchtime restaurant is the Farmgate in Cork's downtown English Market. Closer to home for lunch we like to walk to Blackrock Castle Cafe.

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
We are open to short or longer term exchanges and particularly interested in a longer term exchange in London. Non simultaneous or simultaneous swaps work for us. Long weekend swaps also considered, especially in Ireland or Europe. In 2023/2024 we are particularly interested in spending some time in Spain. We are also open to exchanges elsewhere as we are both fully retired now.
