Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

Our summer home is a 35m2 wooden cabin overlooking the wonderful Waddensea in the North West of Holland, 1 hour away from Amsterdam. 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, 1 garden, 1 sea!
The cabin is situated on a quiet campside. The nearest village is 3km out. We have electricity all year through, but water is closed from 1 november -1 april. So staying in winter would be fir die hards, but it is possible.

In the spring of 2016 we started searching for a quiet place along the Dutch coast, just to get away from the hustle and bustle from Amsterdam where we live and work. What we found right along the North sea coast were mainly overcrowded and overpriced parks, so we decided to look a bit further. When we first saw the picture of the Waddenhut we couldn’t believe it was true and actually when I first entered the Waddenhut I almost started to cry: the view was so amazing!
We had quite some work isolating the interior and redecorating the garden and terrace. All the stuff in the house came from second hand stores and flea markets, some of it real design gems. We hope you appreciate it too!

The Waddenhut is located on camping Zeezicht in Westerland on the former Wadden island of Wieringen. In the evening you can see the light of the lighthouses of Den Helder, Texel and, in clear weather, Vlieland. Cycle around in an old landscape towards Den Oever, along the Wadden Sea over the dike or inside.

Camping Zeezicht is a quiet campsite with mainly fixed pitches. no disco and bingo evenings! Our cottage was one (of the 2) first houses that about 40 years ago by a number of fishermen in the yard of the farmer could be placed, hence the most beautiful place!
The nearest village with supermarkets, a square with a café and a church is in Hippolytushoef, fifteen minutes by bike. A 10-minute walk away is the Amstel Lake with a beach with beach tent where you can swim and surf. North Sea beach such as Callantsoog or Den Helder is about 20/15 km away (an hour of cycling to Den Helder). In the information folder in the cabin you will find some dog walks that we like to walk. In short, a nice quiet place with fantastic views and yet centrally located.
Transport
Less than an hour's drive from Amsterdam by car and you're in the Waddenhut. A train stops in Anna Paulowna (located on the line Amsterdam-Den Helder), 8 km away, buses stop at the Amstel Lake a 10-minute walk away. Bicycles can be rented in Hippolytushoef and delivered at the door.

Please NOte! The campsite asks a few euros per person (and dog) per day for tourist tax and passers-by. Check their website (camping Zeezicht, Westerland) or the rates of this season. On arrival you should report to the reception and pay the amount (there is no pin, so only cash!). We leave more than enough petroleum for the heating which you will only need in the early or late season.. If you come too short (by letting the stove burn excessively), then you can buy this at the Formido. There is enough gass as well for cooking and warm water, in case that finishes you can get a new bottle at reception , which we will pay afterwards.
35 m2 with spacious living room-open kitchen, bathroom with shower and toilet and 1 spacious bedroom. Large enclosed garden, ideal for dog owners. 2 people can sleep in the bedroom and 2 on the sofa bed, but the cabin is furnished for a couple with a sofa bed for the occasional guest (-s).
the whole house is available. The shed behind the hut we use to store personal items, but there you will also find the garden stuff, 3 BBQ's, petroleum to fill the stove and the vacuum cleaner. The camp site itself has a beautiful bathhouse with washing and drying machines.
You can always call or app me. For questions about the campsite, you can always contact the helpful people at camping Zeezicht during reception hours. If I am not there for the key handover, I will let you know in advance. You can pick up the key at the reception during reception hours in case I am not around. Of course we will discuss this when our exchange is a fact!.

Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

Our cabin is situated on Campside 'Zeezicht'. Its a very quiet campside ideal for the seekers for peace and quiet. Teenagers looking for parties won t be found here, since there are no such facilities at all.

Bird lovers will find it paradise. We are right at world heritage Waddensea and Wieringen is one of the former Waddensea islands. Its a protected area.
You can't swim in the Waddensea but the Amstelmeer, a sweet water lake, is a 10 minute walk from the cabin. Here one can swim, lay on of the 3 beaches and surf. The North sea is a 20 minute car drive.

The nearest village is 3 km out, so you will need bikes or a car. The nearest train station is 8 km away, from here you can get a bus to Westerland, and then its a 10 minute walk.
A car actually will work best.
