We are enthusiastic about home exchange and have only had positive experiences so far. We love to travel and explore new countries and cultures. We answer every offer because we think that your interest is at least worth an answer and some consideration.
Our children don`t travel with us any longer.
Our interests are social history, hiking and kayaking. We have been kayaking on almost all of the seven seas. We love quiet life by the sea and unspoiled nature. But also historical sites, old cities or natural parks or cultural heritages.

Read More...We had a wonderful time in Bad Salzuflen. The town is a true spa, with a relaxing atmosphere, spa treatments available, and a lovely central square with shops, outdoor cafes, a trolley ride, and lots of street life. Our home was comfortable, spacious, and had a fresh vegetable garden to help with fine meals in the sunroom. We took advantage of the area, with day trips to castles, Bremen, Hanover, Detmold, and surrounding towns. The garden "Herrenhausen," is not to be missed! We learned about German history with all its glory and difficulties as well, and appreciated the fine welcome we found from everyone we met. With refreshing air, beautiful scenery, and easy to navigate roads, we had a superb first-visit to Germany, and are grateful to our hosts Astrid and Arndt.

Read More...It was a very easy transition to Astrid and Arnd's home in Bad Salzuflen from ours on Mayne Island: well-provisioned kitchen, excellent wifi, German and British tv for the few evenings when we just needed to do nothing, a lovely private backyard, a great bbq, and a wonderful vegetable garden from which we enjoyed cucumbers, tomatoes and squash. The conservatory is a welcoming, bright space that we utilized often. Astrid and Arnd's home is ideally located adjacent to well-signed walking and cycling paths to many other towns and cities. We used their bicycles almost exclusively to go into the city and to shop for groceries because of the close proximity of the house to the city. From Bad Salzuflen, Hannover, Berlin and Hamburg are easy train rides away. Thanks, Astrid and Arnd, we enjoyed our stay in your home immensely. Cheers, Dee & Bruce.

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
We are considering each offer, no matter when and where to.
The penthouse consists of a main apartment (ca. 110m2) and a smaller independent one (45m2). There are three patios facing south, west and south west, all with deckchairs, outdoor sitting or Strandkorb. There is an elevator from the underground carpark to the apartment entrance. The kitchen and baths are of high standard.
We are Astrid (62) and Arnd (66) very experienced home exchangers since 2007 (20+). We are retired or in a sabbatical year in 2023. As we have been working fully and in very strenuous jobs (both teachers) we are going to take a longer timeout. We have been travelling the world, mostly via homelink . Now as we are still relatively young we want to see
more. What is better than homelink then, we think.
So we are planning a tour around the world in 2024. This shall include New Zealand, West and East Australia, the North of Australia, Canada, the US (near National Parks) and let`s see what else is coming up. Maybe Iceland.
We are offering a cozy and modern home in the middle of Germany (or rather Europe) with easy access to all capitals in Europe either via plane or train or car. We can accommodate up to four people easily and do also offer a modern car. The penthouse is taken care of while we are abroad. Plus we can be reached at any time. Our area is well known for culture, history, music and excellent dining out (in summer al fresco dining at almost all restaurants around)
We are aware that we will need really good timing to enable this project. We prefer simultaneous exchanges but non-simultaneous exchanges are also possible to some extent.
A rough schedule is the following:
April 2024: Australia 2-3 weeks and then Darvin if possible 2 weeks. The timespan is negotiable.
May 2024: Canada We would love to stay on one of the Islands located at Vancouver Island, but also Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Vancouver, British Columbia ... are most welcome. About 2 -3 weeks.
May/June 2024: US: We have never been to Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Antilope Canyon, Arches National Park, Bryce Canyon, Grand Teton, Rocky Mountains ...
Last should be Iceland as it is on the way back.
For 2023 every offer is welcome.
We consider every offer and answer every offer. Everybody or every destination is welcome. But please answer so that we can plan ahead. If you have any questions or wishes please don`t hesitate to tell us.
We hope for the assistance of the homelink community. Our plans need a lot of pre-run time.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
We live in a safe and quiet part of town. Most restaurants, the pedestrian area, cinemas, shops, the spa etc. are within easy walking distance. Public transport is right at the entrance
of our building. There are many attractive places
around. Within easy reach to most capitals in Europe. Come to Bad Salzuflen and relax or explore.
We are the ideal spot to start a tour through Europe from. All our Canadian guests have taken Bad Salzuflen as a starting point. There our numerous airports (Paderborn, Hannover, Dormund) within easy reach as well as highspeed trains to Berlin, Cologne, Dresden, Munich etc ... You want to see the "old" Germany? There is so much to see Hermannsdenkmal, Externsteine, Freilichtmuseum Oerlinghausen, small medieval towns like Lemgo, Blomberg, Höxter. Our guests had different interests so far. Almost all have been to the Freilichtmuseum, some have been on long biking or hiking tours, some have explored the many cafés and restaurants, outdoor in summer an absolute must..

Attractions are Lange Strasse with houses more than 500 years old, Vitasol, a spa with an indoor pool with natural salt water. The MARTA in our neighbouring town Herford has just been named
museum of the year in Germany. There are various exhibitions. There is so much to see like the Ruhrgebiet with many formerly coal mines or steel factories which are now museums of living history, arts or social history. Tell us your interests and we will help you and work something out.
The farmers` markets in Bad Salzuflen and Lemgo are a must. There are lots of open air concerts, exhibitions, theatre, comedy, cinema etc. ...
There is huge variety of restaurants all within walking distance. Think of a cozy summer night at a yard of a 750 years old castle (Schloß Wendlinghausen) .. stunning.
