We are a family of 3, a civil rights attorney, a design researcher and a respectful, inquisitive middle school student. We also often travel with Karen's mother, who is a retired public school teacher. We love to travel and explore other countries and cultures. In fact, we recently undertook a sabbatical for a year and a half in Barcelona. We have done a number of exchanges on this and another website. We will treat your home respectfully and leave it as clean as we found it.

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
Emeryville is a small town located at the foot of the Bay Bridge across from San Francisco. Home to Pixar Animation Studios, Leapfrog, and various other hi-tech and bio-tech companies, Emeryville boasts its own fine restaurants, shopping, marina, and parks while affording quick access to all the East Bay and San Francisco have to offer. We're minutes from Berkeley and the newly upscaled Oakland downtown and from the real star--San Francisco.
With no traffic, downtown S.F. is under twenty minutes away. A BART subway stop is minutes from our house and the downtown SF station (Embarcadero) is reached in only 4 stops and 16 minutes.
Our home is a comfortable 1,000 square foot Craftsman bungalow completely updated, but with many of the original built-ins and details (like the hardwood floors) from the 1920's. It has two bedrooms, one bath. The master bedroom opens onto a private deck and small garden through french doors. The back yard offers a private jacuzzi/hot tub.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
Emeryville boasts its own fine restaurants, shopping, marina, and parks. A block from our home is the Emeryville Center for Community Life, a K-12 school campus and community center with a public pool, track and gym that recently won an international Global Award for Excellence from the Urban Land Institute. The city is centrally located, affording quick access to all the East Bay and San Francisco have to offer. We're minutes from the "gourmet ghetto" and the University of California in Berkeley and the newly upscaled Oakland downtown. The real star--San Francisco--is a 17-minute subway ride away. Emeryville has a free shuttle around town and to the subway. Nearby freeways enable day or overnight trips to the world famous wine regions of Napa Valley and Sonoma (50 minutes), Point Reyes National Seashore (80 min.), Monterey (2 hours), Lake Tahoe (3 1/2 hrs) or Yosemite National Park (5 hrs).
