We are a happily married professional couple (together 23+ years) in our early fifties without children. We both have home offices and love living in the most wonderful area of Victoria, BC on Vancouver Island. We are two blocks from the ocean and a short walk to a lovely 'village' filled with food, restaurants, and coffee shops. Esther has severe seasonal grass allergies which are worst in the month of June. This is why we have done some home exchanges in the past in desert regions. We have since fallen in love with New Mexico and Arizona. We are into health, fitness, yoga and meditation and reading and personal growth.
GUEST COMMENTS: Exchange June 6-28, 2017 Santa Fe, NM USA
I spent three enjoyable weeks in Victoria, B.C. at the home of Esther Kane and Nathaniel Richman. Their home is spacious and comfortable. Exciting was the location! Being two blocks from the ocean, within walking distance of downtown Victoria along with other tourist attractions, close to a community farmers and crafts market, just blocks from the commercial village of Cook Street with shops and restaurants, and surrounded by homes with lovely, interesting gardens - such a delight. Description of the home we are offering for exchange
Our home is a beautiful large Victorian house (built around 1910) centrally located in one of the most desirable neighbourhoods in Victoria BC on Vancouver Island. From our house, it's a 5-20 minute walk to: the ocean, shopping and restaurants, and the gorgeous Inner Harbour downtown. We are a professional child-free couple in our early 50's who travel extensively and would love to exchange our home in Canada's paradise on Vancouver Island for your equally lovely home in various places throughout the world.
Due to severe seasonal allergies, we are hoping to exchange for the entire month of June every year as well as other trades during the rest of the year.
About the area:
Victoria, capital of British Columbia, sits on the craggy southern end of Vancouver Island. With abundant parkland and gardens, it’s known for outdoor activities.
Here are a few ideas of attractions to experience in Victoria:
The Butchart Gardens is known for its incredible floral displays. There is always something new to see in any season, from spring crocuses and tulips to thousands of dazzling lights during Christmas.
Craigdarroch Castle, with its lavish late 19th century architecture, design and furnishings, gives a glimpse of how the wealthy lived in the late 1800s. Climb 87 steps to the top of the tower for a rewarding panoramic view of Victoria.
Take a tour of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia to learn about the history of these intricate buildings and the role of BC’s provincial government.
Whale-watching tours set out from the Inner Harbour to look for Orcas, grey and minke whales. Along the way, learn about (and see) sea lions, seals and bald eagles, and listen for whales with the hydrophone.
The Royal BC Museum has more than 7 million objects and documents! Confront a woolly mammoth, admire impressive Aboriginal art, peek into a Chinatown herbalist shop, and much more.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
We live right in the hub of the most sought-after Victoria neighbourhoods- Fairfield. It's an eclectic mix of young and old, and everything in between, with something to offer everyone. We're within walking distance of yoga studios, the ocean, Beacon Hill Park, and Cook St. Village which is full of bustling cafes, shopping and restaurants. We hardly ever use the car because everything is so accessible by foot or bike.
We live in a friendly, safe, and lively community. Although we know our neighbours and love to chat, we also enjoy a huge amount of privacy and quiet in our beautiful Victorian house. We love being able to work from home and take breaks throughout the day by walking around our neighbourhood and connecting with nature and other people.
