Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

Our 110 year old house is nicely renovated in an older neighbourhood with tree-lined streets in the heart of Vancouver. The main floor of the house has a large living room, a dining room and an office area facing the street. The kitchen is our delight. It is spacious, good for socializing, and in the late afternoon/evening we get some sun from the west. We love it! There is a good dining area as well and a bathroom off the kitchen with a large bath tub. Perfect for a soak or for parents who want to be in the kitchen while the kids play in the bath. There is a small deck off the kitchen (with a barbeque) and a small back garden, all surrounded by large trees giving privacy and a feeling of being in the forest.

The lower level has 2 bedrooms, both with queen beds, 1 bathroom with a walk-in shower and heated tile floor, and a TV/lounge area. The lower level has lower ceilings than normal but the bedrooms are a good size with walk in closets in each. Note that the bathroom is shared between the two bedrooms, and there is no en suite bath.

We have 2 bikes for you to use.

There is a stereo, wifi, and a computer for you to use, as well as an exercise bicycle, and a washer and dryer.

The location is very central but also quiet, with transit and traffic noise very minimal. It is a safe and walkable neighbourhood.

Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

Our home is in Riley Park, one block from Main St. , one of the city's most popular shopping and restaurant streets. Everything you need is within walking distance and there is easy access to Vancouver's cycling and transit networks. The Canada Line Skytrain from the airport stops at Cambie and 25th Ave, about a 20 minute walk from here. There is a small park within 100 m. that is great spot for small children. A larger park with a playground, skate park, basketball court and large lawn is a 7 min. walk away. Downtown and the city's renowned seawall trails are just a short distance away (3.5 km and 2 km respectively).

Our section of Quebec Street is a bit unusual, as these lots are all 'half size' with smaller houses from the early 1900's. The street is fairly calm and quiet and there is little noise from Main Street.

Attractions

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home

Riley Park and Mount Pleasant are trendy, vibrant neighbourhoods with lots of shops, restaurants, bakeries and craft breweries. Queen Elizabeth Park, a 15 minute walk away, features panoramic views of the city, flower gardens, a good restaurant (Seasons in the Park), and the Bloedel Conservatory. VanDusen Botanical Garden is a short bike ride away (3.3 km) and Stanley Park can be reached by transit or by the seawall. Access to the seawall, 28 km of waterfront paths, is just 2 km away. Being on the water in Vancouver is easy and there are multiple ways to explore it. There are small ferries that make multiple stops on both sides of False Creek (False Creek Ferries and Aquabus) and can be used to get between Science World, Granville Island, the Maritime Museum/Kits Beach and Yaletown/downtown. The Seabus takes you from Waterfront Station in Gastown to Lonsdale Quay in North Vancouver where there are shops and cultural attractions. There are boat rentals available, from kayaks to sailboats, at multiple locations relatively nearby. And, of course, there are the beaches; not the equal of Hawaii or Australia but they offer wide open spaces with beautiful views, places to swim, trails, beach volley ball courts, and some amenities like restaurants.
Getting to the local mountains is easy from our neighbourhood by car and there are things to do in all seasons, from hiking to skiing to simply sightseeing.

Main Street has many restaurants and pubs, as well as good shopping for clothes, food, vintage guitars, coffee, housewares, specialty food stores and beer and wine.
