We are a mature couple greatly enjoying the start of our retirement. Just over 3 years ago we made an easy transition from the city life of Vancouver to a quieter life in the country on beautiful Salt Spring Island. Connie worked for many years as a student advisor at universities and David is still running his computer business but rapidly winding down. Our children work and live nearby in Vancouver. We are completely new to the home exchange process and lifestyle but have some friends on the island who are big supporters of it. So we are jumping in with both feet and looking to get going with several over the next couple of years

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
Good sized comfortable home with recent updates to 3 bathrooms and a well-equipped kitchen, on a 1 acre lot with trees and gardens. Three spacious bedrooms are on the second floor along with two bathrooms. The generous master bedroom has an ensuite bathroom with views of arbutus and fir trees for real forest bathing. A second bedroom has a walk in shower bathroom a few steps away. There are two lounges, one with a fireplace, both with views of the gardens. There are many outdoor sitting spaces to enjoy the natural setting, including deer and birdlife. (No dangerous predators.)
Our home is situated in a quiet rural neighbourhood on Salt Spring. the largest southern Gulf Island midway between Vancouver and Victoria. We are close to the village of Ganges which serves the 10,000 residents of Salt Spring Island. A local bus route is nearby but a car should be considered essential. Ferry terminal which connects to Vancouver island is 5 minute drive away, and the pleasant ferry ride takes 20 minutes. Overall, there are 3 different ferries serving the island

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Peaceful rural location close to one of the ferries to Vancouver Island and on a local bus route. It is a wooded area and very peaceful. Our home is on a quiet cul de sac and our neighbours are lovely. Semi tame deer abound and our land is fenced so we can enjoy seeing them without incurring damage to the garden. The largest lake on the island is 3 minutes away and is great for swimming in the summer time. It is about a 7 minutes drive into Ganges which has all of the main shops for the island.
Salt Spring Island is a perfect place to come and enjoy the nature British Columbia is famous for. A great link to activities here: https://vancouversun.com/travel/local-travel/b-c-travel-8-things-to-do-on-salt-spring-island-for-nature-lovers?utm_term=Autofeed&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1553878804. We are also close to Vancouver Island for day trips or for longer to places like Victoria, Butchart GardensCowichan Valley and Tofino. Vancouver is also a ferry ride (or a float plane flight) away. So we are close to lots of places for tourist activities

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
Salt Spring Island is the largest of the famous Gulf Islands (https://www.saltspringtourism.com/). It is a charming place to hike, kayak, boat, or to just relax and enjoy nature. The island has it all - beaches and ocean, mountains and views, a charming village and a west coast ethos. A great place To get away from it ALL. Also great to plan day and short trips to nearby Victoria, Vancouver, or Tofino. From early March until the end of October Salt Spring has the well known Saturday market featuring artisans, crafts people and farmers that Salt Spring is famous for. There are many good restaurants. There are artisanal breweries, distilleries, cideries and wineries but the most famous place is the Salt Spring goat cheese company . The island has its own very special vibe.

We have a septic tank so care is needed when using toilet (simple guidelines are provided). We would expect our home to be left clean and tidy and we would do the same. Smoking outside is fine.
