Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

This condo is tucked away in a little residential nook known to few as the "Place Victor Hugo". It’s a little green oasis just south of the Business District (7-13 min walk to different business towers) in the Northern cusp of Griffintown & and the Eastern extremity of Little Burgundy. Griffintown is attracting an urban, trendy, young professional crowd with its large condo developments and revitalized Lachine canal. And Little Burgundy was cited as one of 2 hottest new burbs in Montreal by Christopher Muther of the Boston Globe.

For foodies, the neighbourhood and neighbouring Old Montreal are exploding with options and flavours. Just outside the residential nook is the HVOR (one of Montreal’s best restaurants) and for meat-eaters, a 7 minute walk westward leads to the award winning Joe Beef (top 100 restaurants in the world). Lest we forget restaurants of the likes of Le Fantôme, Perles & Paddock, and the Grinder Restaurant, or smaller scale bakeries (Patrice Patissier, Mamie Clafoutis); cafés & restaurants (La Bistrote, Spanel Crêpes), Micro-Breweries (Brasseur de Montreal) & even health shops (Allons vert) . Continue walking westwards and the Atwater Market greets you for local and specialty produce. For vegans & the food curious, the LOV (on McGill College in the Old Montreal and on Mountain are a 16min and 11min walk from your home base) and InvitationV are trendy surprisingly great tasting options to explore.

Walking Eastward, the Robert Bourassa boulevard, is the doorway to the *Old Montreal & the Old Port*. This is the historic center of Montreal. Museums, stunning architecture (Gothic revival Notre-Dame Basilica meets the ultra modern Centre des Congrès, squares (mostly work-focussed Square Victoria meets tourist laden Carré St-Jacques), restaurants, and shops.

Montreal is known for its art scene. Festivals, events, and other cultural activities are numerous and vary based on time of year. More information can be found here: www.tourisme-montréal.org

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home

Montreal is Canada's 2nd largest city with a population of 1.78 million. It’s known for its vibrant arts scene and massive amount of restaurants per capita, 2nd in North America only to New York city. It's the birthplace of the famous Cirque du Soleil and is the host to an impressive amount of festivals and events. There is so much going on at any given time in Montreal that there will be something to please everyone. This section is but a pale broken snapshot of what the city has to offer.

Note with respect to shopping: Stroll on Ste-Catherine Street & its perpendicular crossing streets in the downtown center for typical large store & high end boutiques in Canadian dollars (I met a woman who flies in from Boston specifically to shop at COS). Check out The Plateau (Mont-Royal, St-Laurent, St-Denis, and the Mile EX), Monkland Street in NDG, and Greene ave in Westmount to name but a few.

Our Preferences

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules

This is a 2 bedroom condominium with queen-sized beds in both rooms. It is best suited for 2 - 3 adults. The condo is on the smaller side with 960 sqft so 2 adults in the master bedroom may find it quite tight to share with another set of adults in the guest room. You may find your needs are best suited elsewhere if you are a party of 4 adults.

No noise after 10pm please. The building is on the quiet side. My friendly, but silence-loving neighbours, may make calls to the police for sound disturbance.

Allergy Alert: Absolutely no smoking or pets. Thank you.
