Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Dorset – one of the sunniest counties in Britain - offers something for everyone. Rocky coves, sandy beaches, fishing harbours, cliff walks and fossil hunting. But also plenty of English history and culture; castles, forts, stately homes, museums and galleries, pubs and restaurants. Nearby Weymouth and Portland Island is the home of British sailing (it hosted the 2012 Olympic Sailing events), but is equally renowned for its historic harbour, forts and golden sandy beach, whose gentle slope and clear water make it perfect for swimming (especially for children). Away from the coast, the rolling green hills and woodland of Dorset's charming countryside is a designated 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty', and hiking, cycling and horse riding are all popular. Within 20 minutes of the house you can explore the largest iron age hill fort in Europe, a host of medieval castles and historic houses, and numerous charming market towns and villages.
