Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

Spacious detached bungalow (2,300 sq ft) in half-acre garden. Attractive, hamlet setting with outlook onto ancient park land, only 3.5 miles from historic Bury St. Edmunds, which has good restaurants, entertainment, shopping and great twice weekly markets. As well as the sitting room, there is a large garden room (with wood-stove), leading off the kitchen & breakfast areas. Bedrooms have king-size zip-and-link beds, so you can choose double or twin sleeping. The master bedroom has an en-suite shower room and the other bathroom includes a bath + shower. There is also a dining room, laundry room and additional wc. Lots to see and do in and around Cambridge and historic East Anglia. Ely & the fens to the north west and rolling Suffolk to the south and east. Lovely towns and villages such as Lavenham to explore, good walking and bird watching. Suffolk & Norfolk coasts within reach for day trips, as well as Constable Country.

Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

Our small village, to the west of Bury St. Edmunds, was originally part of the Ickworth estate, which is now National Trust owned. Our only village facility is the church of St. Nicholas, which has Saxon origins, is Grade I listed and has a Norman round tower, described as the best in Suffolk. The locals are friendly, and you would be welcome to join in the Sunday Morning walks.

Attractions

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home

The village is on a bus route which runs between Bury St. Edmunds and Newmarket, but to easily reach the many attractions of the area you will need to be willing to drive. Bury St. Edmunds is of great historical interest. In particular you shouldn't miss the Cathedral http://www.stedscathedral.co.uk/ - originally one of the largest abbeys in Europe - and which now has a beautiful new tower, constructed to mark the Millennium. Ickworth http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/ickworth/ is also a must-see. Foodies are well catered for in the area. We have good pubs and restaurants, farmers markets, farm shops and cafes.
