Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

We have a large traditional farm house with stables, an enclosed courtyard and a round gate, a big garden with trees, a treehouse and a nice view from the house towards the sunset? The interior is cosy, informal and clean. One of the barns, a centuries old building from wood and earth has recently been renovated and now is my artist studio. ( On request I could send an article about it in a German architecture magazine.

There are also two super nice medium size dogs that you may fall in love with, Timo and Donna. They expect to get a walk in the morning and a short walk in the evening which can be in the beautiful surrounding from the house. Also they like your company but that should not keep you from making trips.
In July and August our tomatoes can be harvested from the greenhouse.
We will leave from July 25 to August 4 in 2022.

Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

It is a rural area (free but houses nearby) . Slightly hilly. Nice for half hour walks with the dogs but if you drive 10-30 minutes you will reach stunning landscapes for longer hikes. The castle Alden Biesen of the Teutoiean Order is at walking distance.
Apart from the little town of Bilzen at 5 minutes distant, to which Waltwilder belongs, there a two historically very special cities nearby, both less than 10-15 minutes: Maastricht (Nl) and Tongeren (B), both the oldest cities of those countries. On the river Meuse (Maastricht) some wateractivities can be done. Tongeren has Europe’s biggest open-air antiques market on Sundays and the French speaking city of Liégehas Europe’s biggest open-air fleamarket (at 25 minutes).
The German Aachen at 40 minutes. In one hour you can be in Brussels, Antwerp or Cologne (Germany). Luxemburg is two hours. The Ardennes ( mountains) are one hour.
The Haspengouw region (where we live in ) is famous for it’s extended numbered bicycling network (which runs next to the house) and for its orchards.
The Belgian National Park Hoge Kempen is at 10 minutes drive. Just across the Dutch border (which is also at 10 minutes) ,The Dutch
part Zuid-Limburg begins, with stunning landscapes and a many hiking possibilities, to be found on detailed websites. The same counts for the Belgium Voerstreek (25 minutes). We have four language regions that you can drive through in half an hour. Most people speak three languages at least.

There are a few restaurants/bistro’s/ pubs at walking distance from the house.

You’ll need a car for shopping. We can talk about using ours.

If we know your preferences, detailed info can be given.

Nb for excange we prefer a countryside house in wide, great landscapes for walks. It could be hills, mountains or sea, In Europe.

Our Preferences

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules

Our two dogs are very important to us. They get a walk somewhere in the morning about , usually about 40 minutes. And a short walk in the evening. Not very long walks because one dog is getting older. Because of the wooden barn: no fire in or near the house, buildings and garden.
