Description of the home we are offering for exchange
We live in Antwerp, a city in the north of Belgium, close to the Dutch border. We can easily accommodate five people, in three separate bedrooms. We live in a recent renovated house, with a lot of space and light, close to the centre of the city, in a street with such great neighbours that we never want to move. Public transport in Antwerp and Belgium is so well organized that you really don?t need a car to get around. Of course, you can use our bikes as well.
We are particulary interested in other European cities, but are open to any offers.
Antwerp is considered, together with Amsterdam, Valencia or Vienna, as one of the cool capitals of Europe. (http://www.coolcapitals.com/#/Home) Antwerp is famous for its fashion, its nightlife, its restaurants and its combination of mediaeval buildings with modern architecture. It has a world class zoo and a wide range of musea. Of course, other interesting cities as Ghent, Bruges and Brussels are close by and can be easily reached by train. Even Paris or Amsterdam are only a couple of hours away.
Below you will find some articles out of leading British and American newspapers.
DAILY EXPRESS (12/18/2010)
'I love Antwerp. If things went belly up for me in the UK I would move in a flash to this sprawling city of 600,000, where people get around on old-fashioned bicycles and trams. At its heart is Groenplaats Square with its steeply gabled roofs and open-air caf

Let's quote the Financial Times of 2010
'Conveniently compact and admirably attractive, Antwerp has a wealth of beautiful old buildings, striking modern architecture, pretty shops and cosy restaurants and cafés. With more museums, galleries and live venues than most cities of its size (population 460,000), it is excellently placed as a base for many western European centres, with Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Paris little more than an hour away by car or train. London to nearby Brussels is less than two hours by Eurostar.
Antwerp is elegant and well-designed, from its oldest parts – the cobbled streets leading from the central Grote Markt, lined with 16th-century guild houses, and the imposing Stadhuis (town hall), completed in 1566 – to the newest – with some fabulous examples of contemporary architecture dotted all around. There are also whole streets of stunning art nouveau buildings in the south-eastern suburb of Zurenborg.'
Here is a quote from The New York Post (january 2017): 'With its perfectly preserved medieval buildings and ancient cobblestone streets, Antwerp might seem content to rest on historic laurels. In fact, Belgium’s second-largest city is a vibrant, cosmopolitan place where avant-garde fashion, cutting-edge architecture and progressive cuisine flourish. In recent years, urban renewal has come to the gritty docklands of the north (Eilandje) and to the former down-at-the-heels neighborhood (Zuid) in the south.'
