Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
No-one comes to the 'Top End" of Australia for the shopping, restaurants, cafes etc! Visitors come to admire NATURE.
A 20 min drive gets you to Darwin's beaches and Mindil Beach, Nightcliff and Parap Markets. Palmerston Market is smaller but is a market for the locals so you won't meet any tourists here, only the multicultural mix which is so typical for the Top End.
A 20 - 30 minute drive south gets you to Humpty Doo Pub or Berry Springs Nature Park and Territory Wildlife Park.
Easy car access to Darwin, Kakadu National Park (about 300km), Litchfield Park (150km), Katherine(330km), Mataranka (400km). ( NOTE: Please do not underestimate distances here.) Excellent fishing, both river and saltwater.
Note: entering Aboriginal land requires a permit so is generally only possible on a guided Aboriginal culture tour.
You could fly over to Kununurra in West Australia to visit the Bungle Bungles in the Kimberleys, Gibb River Road or El Questro Station - at a price.
