I'm a single mom with two grown children who are both college graduates and working professionals. I am a writer and author of several books. My focus is environmental protection, climate change, and protecting wilderness and wildlife. I also tutor young adults who are trying to get their high school equivalency degree. I have traveled all over the world, but I'm not done yet!

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
You'll love my modern but cozy home one short block to the subway. Enjoy lots of windows, bright sunny days, and a large garden full of trees, native plants, and wonderful birds. Relax in the afternoons and evenings under the covered gazebo porch; dine on the back deck overlooking a wide garden expanse. Walk to shops, restaurants, a food co-op, a farmers market, 2 yoga studios, and more. Hop on the subway to zip down to the monuments, museums, Kennedy Center, theaters, and the beautiful Smithsonian Mall. You'll love it here!

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
My neighborhood is called Takoma Park. We're one block over the D.C. boundary, so just a quick walk (or drive on the weekends) to the subway to get anywhere you want to go in the city and surrounding area (it's easy to arrive here on the subway if you come in from Reagan National; otherwise taxi or Lyft from Dulles or Baltimore). Our streets are lined with quaint Victorian-era homes; we're both a "tree city" and an "azalea city" because there is such an abundance and variety of both. Nearby restaurants include New American, Italian, Asian fusion, vegan, and Mexican, plus cafes that host "open mic" music nights, as well as author readings and other events. Stroll up to the farmer's market Sunday morning for delicious, organic and locally grown produce and meats, as well as cheese, bread, spirits, and beautiful flowers. Don't miss happy hour at Republic - it's the best! Overall, people are friendly, well-traveled, and wonderful to get to know. Plus, we have a bike-share system in place, so you can cheaply rent bicycles if you want to enjoy nearby bike paths. There's a nearby gym you can pay a daily rate to if that's important.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
From our home, it is one block to the subway. The subway will take you down to the Capitol; to the Smithsonian museums; to almost any neighborhood you want to visit; to the Kennedy Center or the Shakespeare Theater; and more. If you will be driving, you can park your car on my driveway and use it to go farther afield, or just keep it parked during your visit.

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
We will leave our home tidy and clean for you, and expect to find it in similar condition upon our return. Likewise, we will clean your home upon our departure. There is no smoking or vaping allowed on our premises; neither will we smoke or vape at your home. We are doing our part to protect the environment, as I'm sure you are, too. We are lucky in that, in our community, we can easily put recyclables (glass, plastic, metal) and kitchen waste (compost) on the street curb for once a week pick-up. We'll leave information for you if you're interested in doing that, as well.
