Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

Ours is a lovely, two-story Queen Anne Revival home, built in 1901 and located in a tranquil neighborhood blessed with both pleasantly temperate weather, year-round, and a vibrant multicultural community, within easy reach of a great many destinations of worldwide renown* and with several public-transit options for a quick trip to the fabulous city of San Francisco and points beyond.

We love discovering new places, and are eager, as well, to share with you and your family the charming home to which we return from our travels. We are very tidy and will care for your home with the same diligence we use at ours.

We are just a block from the bus-lines that can either take you straight to downtown SF; or drop you at one of the hubs for the extensive subway system (Bay Area Rapid Transit or BART), which includes stops at both Oakland and San Francisco airports; or even deposit you at the nearby ferry stop, for an enchanting water-borne delivery to the City.

Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

Alameda is an island situated near the Eastern shore of the San Francisco Bay. Eurosettled in the 1800's, we have a fine collection of Victorian homes dating from that period, along with many beautiful houses from architectural styles popular in the intervening century. The island has its own, very tranquil vibe, feeling more like a small town than like a vibrant community just twenty minutes from downtown San Francisco. We are well known for our peaceful parks, bayside beaches and promenades, and lovely neighborhoods; for the variety and quality of our robust restaurant scene; for our plentiful marinas, sailboats and powerboats; and for our splendidly mild Mediterranean climate. A final point of local pride is the peaceful coexistence of our very diverse population: Alamedans include relatively recent immigrant communities hailing from every corner of the world, living alongside families here for centuries and - in some cases - for millenia - all at home and getting along on the Isle.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home

California - and northern California, in particular - has a virtually inexhaustible variety of places to go, sights to see, and things to do. We have listed only a few of the MANY, MANY offerings that we enjoy on a regular basis. Faced with some free time, our most typical problem is picking which one of our many favorites we feel like doing! Do yourself a favor and search the web: Mendocino Coast - Muir Woods - the Napa-Sonoma wine country - Old Sacramento - Big Sur - Lassen Peak - Mt. Shasta - Yosemite - Carmel - Bodega Bay - Mt. Tamalpais - the American River - Mt. Diablo - Lake Tahoe - Reno - the Avenue of the Giants - U.C. Berkeley - Stanford University - Silicon Valley - not to mention the amusement parks and the water parks and the museum variety and the professional sporting events and the opportunities to enjoy the opera and the symphony and ... the list goes on and on and on. Come on over and begin enjoying. You'll have to return many times to see it all!
