We are Tessa and Paul, both now retired from careers in ELT publishing, occasionally doing a bit of freelance work. Since retiring we've enjoyed taking piano and singing sessions to care homes and our local social club, hence the photo. We love nature, wildlife, walking, swimming, good (often foreign) TV series, reading, languages, philosophy and literature. We have one much-loved daughter who is grown up so no longer lives with us.

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
Our home is a comfortable and spacious four bedroom house in a quiet location in beautiful Woodstock, a few minutes' walk from Woodstock town centre and Blenheim Palace. Upstairs there are three double bedrooms, the fourth bedroom is used as a study, and two bathrooms (one en-suite). Downstairs there is the main living room with dining area and open fire, a back living room with a piano and double sofa bed, a large studio/workroom/office area, the kitchen, a downstairs toilet and a conservatory. We have lots of books, art on the walls and stained glass.
We have a lovely garden, full of roses in the summer, and perfect to eat out in. It is quiet, private and not overlooked. Beautiful birdsong and bird activity thanks to two feeders. It has a patio with a large table and chairs under an umbrella, a smaller table in the full sun, a well-stocked fishpond and a swing seat for reading and relaxing. At the opposite end of the close are the beautiful Woodstock watermeadows and the pretty River Glyme which feeds the lake at Blenheim Palace. Five minutes along the towpath takes you to the free back entrance to Blenheim Palace grounds for a stunning daily walk.
There is offstreet parking for three cars in the front drive. Woodstock is a wonderful location, close to Oxford and the Cotswolds, and with easy access to London.
In 2022 we are looking for UK and European staycation exchanges which offer easy access to sea, lake or river swimming as we are keen wild swimmers. Our UK preference is for the South coast but we are open to suggestions.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Woodstock is a beautiful and historic small town famous as the home of Blenheim Palace, seat of the Marlborough/Churchill family. It's a very friendly place with lots of shops, delis, restaurants, pubs and cafes, a museum and many other amenities. It is only 10 kms from Oxford and is on the edge of the Cotswolds region which contains some of the UK's most beautiful countryside and villages. Our house is in a quiet close a few minutes' walk from the town centre and Blenheim Palace. At the end of the close is the tiny River Glyme, which feeds the lake at the Palace, and its beautiful watermeadows. Behind the house is the beginning of the old footpath to Banbury, now part of sustrans route 5, and offering another beautiful walk through woods looking down on the Glyme. We enjoy wonderful birdsong, visiting pheasants and daily walks in Blenheim Palace grounds.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
Too numerous to mention! Woodstock itself has a great selection of restaurants, cafes, pubs and shops as well as a library and an outdoor pool in the summer. Blenheim Palace is on the doorstep and offers the palace with all its history, the Churchill Museum inside the palace, stunning extensive grounds designed by Capability Brown with a lake, the Monument to the first Duke of Marlborough, a miniature train to the Pleasure Gardens and much more. Beyond Woodstock are all the cultural attractions of Oxford, while the surrounding Cotswold area is also packed with places to visit.

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
In 2022 we are most interested in UK or European exchanges offering good sea, river or lake swimming opportunities in warm weather as we are keen 'wild swimmers'. We are both retired and therefore free most of the time. We are happy to consider spontaneous last-minute exchanges when the weather looks promising!
Children are welcome but our daughter is grown up and the house isn't 'child-proof' or adapted for young children.
