Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

Quiet, beautiful and spacious ground floor flat in historic Victorian (and Jacobean) Blackheath, less than 100 metres from the World Heritage Site of Blackheath Common, and a short walk from the Royal Greenwich Park, the Royal Observatory and Ranger's House. We are just a short walk also from the National Maritime Museum, the Cutty Sark, the Fan Museum and beautiful historic Greenwich. The flat is a 12 minute walk to the Lewisham transport hub, with frequent trains to Victoria, London Bridge or Cannon Street, and with very frequent DLR rail services to Canary Wharf and Bank (the City of London).

Our flat has a very large sitting room/library and the master bedroom is almost 7 metres long, opening on to the garden. Both have large windows, 3.5 metre ceilings with ornate plaster mouldings, and grand marble fireplaces. It is furnished comfortably but durably with antiques and oil paintings, and has been recently redecorated, but it is equipped with modern conveniences (washer, clothes dryer, dishwasher). There are bluetooth speakers in the three main rooms, cd player and turntable and unlimited wifi for your devices.

The kitchen has a farmhouse table, a double oven, a 5 ring gas stove, and a wood-burning kitchen stove. (We do not have a microwave oven.) A kitchen door leads to a very small second bedroom where a fold-away bed is possible for a child or infant and opens on to the tree-shaded garden. This room is pleasant and "country", with absolute privacy from every view. The garden is contained by an ivy-covered stone wall to the East and shaded by Black Poplar, False Acacia, Mimosa, Lime and Horse Chestnut trees, and has a small paved terrace with garden furniture suitable for dining al fresco.

There is one small but perfectly functional bathroom, with white painted walls and floorboards, a bathtub and shower within. Please note: one needs to be able to step into a bathtub in order to shower. There is also a basement for extra storage.

There is a bike that can be borrowed (the tyres may need some pumping), and taken out through the private path at the rear of the garden.

Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

The Parish of Blackheath dates from the 17th century or earlier, although there is also contemporary housing. Very quiet with little traffic, it borders on the World Heritage Sites of Blackheath Common and Royal Greenwich Park, the Royal Observatory, the Maritime Museum, the Queen's House and the Cutty Sark. It is also very close to the well-linked Lewisham station where trains depart for Bank (the City), Victoria Station, Cannon Street and London Bridge every few minutes.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home

My flat is less than 100 metres from the World Heritage Sites of Blackheath Common and the Royal Greenwich Park, and the Royal Observatory, Ranger's House. I am just a 20 minute walk to the National Maritime Museum, the Fan Museum and beautiful historic Greenwich with its delightful covered market stalls and pubs. Also with 25 minutes walk through the beautiful parkland is Trinity Laban School of Music (frequent and free classical music recitals by students within the historic panelled rooms), the Queen's House, the Painted Hall at the Old Naval College, its Chapel and the River Thames.
