Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

We have now arranged an exchange for summer 2024

Our home is a large 19th-century former vicarage, recently refurbished and extended to make it into a modern family home. We live in a quiet village on the beautiful island of Anglesey, reached from the mainland by the historic bridges across the Menai Strait.
The house has been fully renovated and designed to a very high standard by an award-winning designer - it even featured on a house design TV programme (Dan Do - "Under the Roof" on the Welsh-language channel S4C). We love colour, and wallpaper, and tiles, and have used these to create an amazing home with a real wow factor.
The front of the house was originally intended for the family, with grand rooms, and the back of the house (through the arch in the hallway) was servants' quarters. The large kitchen is in the back of the house, and has original built-in cupboards and a range cooker with induction hob in the chimney breast. We have built a functional wall of cupboards including a full sized fridge and freezer, a larder unit, and a breakfast station. The island has a granite worksurface, a dishwasher and a Quooker boiling water tap. Check out the servants' bells - they do not work but the original mechanism is still embedded in some of the walls.
The dining room occupies what was the maid's scullery, and we have an extending table and six chairs plus a bench.
We have a small downstairs WC and a utility room with a washer/dryer and ceiling airer; we also have a line out the back for drying clothes.
Our cosy living room has dramatic wallpaper, a TV (with Sky TV and Netflix), comfy sofas and chairs and lots of storage for games etc. The slate fireplace is decorative and not in use. On the other side of the house we have a playroom with a piano, table-football, and a TV for gaming.
The house has four bedrooms: (1) master bedroom (2) large single bedroom (with pullout trundle bed) (3) ensuite large single bedroom (with a pullout trundle bed as well) (4) smaller spare room with a double sofa bed. Maximum sleeping capacity is eight although 5/6 max would probably be more comfortable. We have a shower room/WC, halfway up the stairs, and the main bathroom has a spacious shower and a full-sized bath. The ensuite also has a shower cubicle.
Outside there is a tree-lined field with a treehouse (sometimes a local farmer uses the field for grazing sheep), a small orchard, and plenty of off-road parking space. We have spent a lot of time in 2022/23 improving the back garden, which is looking wonderful (we might ask you to water the plants if it's dry). You can also sit on the lawn at the front of the house and enjoy sunshine or a hammock in the shade.

Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

Llanddaniel is a quiet village in the beautiful countryside of north Wales, and a good base for exploring Anglesey and Gwynedd. We are under 10 minutes from the bridges across the Menai Strait to the mainland; a short drive from the A55 (the main road running from the ferry port at Holyhead across north Wales to Chester); and the next village along from Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch (the longest place name in the UK!) Anglesey is a great base for walking and climbing in Eryri National Park (Snowdonia), cycling and water sports. It has lovely beaches for leisure or sport. Beaumaris has a fantastic medieval castle, one of several in north Wales (Caernarfon, Harlech, Conwy). Slate quarries and vintage steam trains are also popular.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home

Things to do in the area: the lovely towns of Beaumaris, Conwy and Caernarfon (each with medieval castles); the traditional beach resort of Llandudno; Anglesey beaches for rest or recreation; walking and cycling; steam trains (the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland railways); Portmeirion and Porthmadog; mountain walks in Snowdonia (or take the moutain railway up Snowdon if you want to go the easy way!); the hydro-electric power station and slate mines at Llanberis. National Trust sites nearby include Plas Newydd (a few minutes away, great tea shop!) and Penrhyn Castle. Or take a boat trip on the Menai Strait from Beaumaris, or a ferry to Dublin!
