Hello! We are 2 families of 4 who enjoy adventuring together...we call ourselves the SuperFamily! The 4 kids are ages 7-11 and very well behaved. 3 of the 4 adults have PhDs (engineering, materials science, and linguistics!) In our spare time, we enjoy doing historical recreation, including renaissance swordfighting and medieval cooking. We also love playing board games.
One of the 4 parents needs a sabbatical and is looking to spend some time with her colleagues in Zurich during May-June of 2022. We'd like to do a home exchange for 2-3 weeks for all 8 of us once the kids are out of school. This will be the kids' first trip to Europe and we are hoping the COVID situation will not be too bad.

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
Our 3 bedroom, 2 bath home is only a mile walk to the beach and the local butterfly preserve, and less than half a mile to the local farmer's market twice per week. In addition to the 3 bedrooms there is a furnished attic room, offering accommocations for up to 7 adults plus a few extra children very comfortably. We have a large board game collection, and a hot tub and a trampoline in the backyard. Fruit trees and forest garden plantings offer fresh produce in the yard year-round. The home office, main bedroom, dining room, and family room look in on a tranquil atrium garden. Skylights in both bathrooms and the sunken shower/tub in the ensuite bathroom let pleasant light into every space in the house. Two home office spaces are available, one in the office and one in the dining room. The kitchen is large and fully appointed.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Our neighborhood is delightfully quiet. The house is on a cul-de-sac with a grassy ravine area running down the center of the neighborhood. You can follow the ravine to the playground, neighborhood pool, and tennis courts, or go the other way and quickly come to the Ellwood preserves, which abut UCSB's west campus. We're about 2.5 miles from the center of UCSB. Several grocery stores are in ready walking distance, as are the bus routes. Near the shopping center is another large park, and there is a farmer's market twice per week. We are a 15 minute drive (or 20 minute bus ride) to downtown Santa Barbara, which boasts many tourist amenities, as well as ample hiking in the hills and beach, surfing, and diving activities.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
We enjoy several local restuarants, both in the Camino Real shopping center and in Isla Vista, the local college town neighborhood. We especially recommend Woodstocks Pizza and IV Drip (a local cafe) which makes excellent brownies and ice cream sandwiches. Breakfast at Caje is also tasty.
We love trail running out on the Ellwood bluffs, especially at sunset. The ocean and eucalyptus groves are beautiful in the evening. In the evening we soak in the hot tub and enjoy stargazing while listening to good music, or we break out one of our many board games. Campbell Hall at UCSB and the Arlington and Granada Theatres downtown have many excellent cultural events to attend. There are bike paths running to the campus and all across town, making it easy to get around.
Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
Please leave things approximately as you found them and let us know about anything that gets damaged. Help yourself to fruit or produce from the yard. Please don't smoke anything indoors. We have a fireplace but we just have a decorative light in it and prefer that it not be used.
