Description of the home we are offering for exchange
Our charming, well-maintained Alexandria home is only a 10 min. drive to George Washington's famed Mt. Vernon plantation along a beautiful stretch of the Potomac River. But no need to drive if you want to see the best that DC offers as we are only 12 minutes from a Metro station that can take you to the center of the city in minutes. Washington's museums, galleries, public gardens & parks are among the best in the world, and most are free! (We even have free world class concerts!) Kids & adults alike love the hundreds of interactive activities at the Air & Space, Spy, natural history museums & the fabulous Newseum.. Other famed sights: the White House, U.S. Capitol & Congress, Supreme Court, National Galleries of Art, Library of Congress, & the Vietnam & Lincoln memorials. At the end of each hard day of touring, relax in the comfort & privacy of our family-friendly home: enjoy gorgeous garden views, cooling breezes & BBQ from our screened porch, decks, & patio.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Our neighborhood is wooded, quiet, safe, friendly,& beautiful--with mixture of California modern and brick colonial homes. There are many gorgeous gardens (ours being one of the nicest). It is very well located for touring Old Town Alexandria; Washington, DC; civil war sites, Colonial sites (e.g., Mt. Vernon). It's great for kids; walk to pool, playgrounds,Unitarian Church, Potomac River walk/bike path; less than mile from indoor ice skate rink & gym. Great public transport to DC & environs ( 10-12 minute drive to closest metro station.) We have 2 libraries w/in 5 minutes, 3 farmers' markets to choose from, a fine hospital and numerous medical facilities. We have many fine restaurants to choose from, especially in nearby Old Town Alexandria. Deer frequent our yard and neighborhood as well as red fox. We have many birds; you can see them from the breakfast room/kitchen windows at our feeders or drinking from our two small water fountains.

From our house, it is a minute drive or a 15-minute walk to the George Washington walk/bike path along the Potomac River. From there, head South about 5 miles to G. Washington's home at Mt. Vernon, or walk north to Old Town, Alexandria (the walk takes about an hour, but it's an easy bike ride). Old Town is a major tourist attraction& very charming. It has many excellent shops and restaurants, including Gadsby's Tavern, -which serves excellent early American fare in an 18th-century bldg. Washington, DC, National Capitol, House & Senate, Smithsonian museums, Spy Museum, Library of Congress, myriad others can be accessed within minutes w/out driving. Everything, including first class concerts, is free. Perfect for families.
