I have exchanges worked out for 2023 but am open for a non simultaneous exchange/ house-sit for August 19 to August 28th 2023. I will be traveling and need someone to house sit. this week is Indian Market week in Santa Fe and of course the Opera is happening. I am also open for any ideas for the year 2024.
I am a curious senior, love to travel, love to stay in one place for a longer stay to really experience the place and culture. I am a painter, a native of Germany, but have lived in"foreign" countries most of my life. I live in Santa Fe NM in a subdivision called Eldorado of Santa Fe. Each house sits on at least one acre land. The architecture is based on the "pueblo style" mostly one story. My house was built in 2021, has a very contemporary look with lots of large windows in the living room, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a study with bookshelf desk and Tv. There is a separate building, my artist studio surrounded by a garden landscaped with boulders and a gas fire pit to enjoy the beautiful sunsets. The house is very comfortable and functional. The kitchen is part of the living space.
Santa Fe is a multi cultural city, often called the "city different" with layers of cultural influences and history, Native American, Spanish, Mexican and Anglo. Many Galleries , Museums, restaurants and shops make the cities attractive to visitors. the surroundings offer many possibilities for excursions to see the landscape, a high desert and the most southern part of the Rocky Mountains, Native American Pueblos, some still lived in like Taos and others ruined but giving a sense of history like Bandolier and the Pecos National Monument.

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
My new home was built by a young Architect couple in 2021, it is contemporary, filled with light, has large windows in the living room, a covered patio for hot days and cool mornings, have your first cup of coffee in the morning, enjoy the sunsets and view to the Ortiz Mountains with a glass of wine in the evening. There is a greenbelt right in front of you and the neighbors are not too close. The front of the house faces south and you can catch the morning sunrise in a private walled garden. The decor inside the house is a mixture of European Antiques and my paintings. There is a separate studio for me to paint next to the terrace with a gas-fire-pit in the center. The studio is not part of the exchange.
The main house has air condition and forced air heating that is set on automatic. The gardens are newly planted in 2021 and did well in the first year, trees and drought tolerant native plants, lavendar, pentstemon and some evergreen shrubs that are easy to take care of and give much pleasure.
the house is very comfortable, bright and airy. The 3rd bedroom is an office and does not have a bed but a sofa for watching TV.

the neighborhood is located outside the city about 15 minutes drive from town. It has a grocery store, gas station some restaurants, car repair shop, a gym and some speciality stores 5 minutes away. All the houses are on a one plus acres each, nice friendly neighbors. We have walking paths for joggers and bikes, lots of green space and hiking trails nearby for more serious hikes. Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
Santa Fe New Mexico is a town very popular for tourists, one of the most visited in the USA. It is often described as "the city different". Condé Nast Traveler identified Santa Fe in their top ten world destinations for spring of 2023. The City Different was the only US destination included with others like Umbria, Italy; the Turquoise Coast of Turkey; Tokyo, Japan; Buzios, Brazil, and the Boracay Islands in the Philippines.
The history is multicultural, with Native American Pueblos nearby with a strong presence of that original culture, the Spanish influence from the Conquistadores, the Mexican influence, New Mexico used to be part of Mexico, and the Anglo culture with many horse Ranches around the city. The city itself has very interesting Architecture that is different from most American cities. the Pueblo style buildings from the Native American tradition is preserved all over town with very few exceptions. Many artists have settled here because of the landscape, the light and open sky. One of the famous artists coming here in the 30's was Georgia O'Keefe along with many others starting an artist community that is still today very strong. Santa Fe has over 200 galleries, museums and cultural events that will make a stay exciting and diverse. Taos, another artist community is within one hour drive, it is also a ski area in the winter. The southern end of the Rocky Mountains and the Sangre de Christo Mountains offer hiking trails.

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
I prefer to find my house clean and in the way you have found it at your arrival. I have two cats that stay mostly in doors to be save from Coyotes and Bobcats, yes we have those here. I also have 2 parakeets in a cage that do not need much attention, just water and food.
I like to exchange for at least 2 to 3 weeks or longer, prefer cities for cultural activities. I will travel by myself but depending on the location I might invite a friend or family member to join me if there is room.
