Description of the home we are offering for exchange
A private ground floor newly-built apartment with large French windows that open onto a quiet, sunny patio and garden. The unit is attached to our 1907 Edwardian main residence above. The garden has been revamped having replaced a lawn with drought-resistant, native Californian plants and a lemon tree. This spacious, one-bedroom unit on the ground floor has a flood of natural light all day; it is very comfortable for a couple, and a maximum of one additional family member. The kitchen accommodates light food preparation, with a sink, small fridge, countertop twin burner, a microwave oven, etc. This kitchen is not for the gourmet cook, though there is a big grill outside and can easily do some cooking inside. A variety of dining and take-out options within 5-10 minutes walk are available, many with outdoor dining: bakeries, breakfast places and restaurants from all over... Japanese, French, Mexican, Russian.etc. and, of course pizza and burger places, as well as wine bars and beer joints. We are 5 minutes walk from the two important museums, as well as the Golden Gate Park, the Botanical Gardens; and, a ten minute drive to Ocean Beach for the sunset gazer in you!

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
We are in a friendly residential street in the Balboa Hollow neighborhood, in the Richmond District right next to Golden Gate Park, the City's great green space, larger than Central Park. Within a couple of blocks you will find several restaurants, cafes, bakeries and groceries. Clement Street is also a walk with dozens of reasonable priced restaurants, one of the Bay Area's best bookstores (Green Apple) and many interesting small stores. Close by in the Park, two of the leading museums in the city - the Renzo Piano-designed California Academy of Sciences (natural history) and the de Young Museum (one of the two leading fine arts museums - designed by Hertzog and de Meuron) are located in a historical campus. Also in easy walking distance are the 19th century Conservatory of Flowers, the San Francisco Botanical Gardens and the Japanese Tea Gardens. You can stroll, run or bike in the park - there are lakes for paddling, tennis courts, a polo field and much more. In the other direction, we are close to The Presidio, one of America's younger National Parks, with great walks and views accross The Bay to the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and beyond. The Pacific Ocean is about 4 miles (6.4km) for sunset-gazers.
