Greenville's downtown has to lead the list; with its wide sidewalks, outdoor plazas and streetside dining, downtown offers a pedestrian-friendly atmosphere that has been compared to that of a European city. In addition to wonderful restaurants and unique boutiques, the downtown area has a retro minor league baseball stadium and several museums including The Children's Museum of the Upstate which is the 7th largest children's museum in the country and the only children's museum that is a Smithsonian Affiliate and the Greenville County Museum of Art which houses the world's largest public collection of watercolors by American artist Andrew Wyeth.

A short drive takes you to Paris Mountain State Park which offers hiking, boating, swimming and picnicking. The 20-mile-long semi-urban Swamp Rabbit Trail, Lake Conostee Nature Park and the Greenville Zoo provide other opportunities for outdoor activities. Indoor attractions include the Greenville Center for Creative Arts, the Peace Center Entertainment Complex, a thriving theatre scene and, of course, all of the fabulous area dining.

There are also numerous opportunities for great day or overnight trips to Ashville, The Great Smoky Mountains, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Atlanta, Charlotte and the Low Country including Charleston and Savanah. And the many picturesque small towns surrounding Greenville will give you a fascinating taste of Southern food and culture.
