I am a special education teacher. I live with my son who is a toddler and my Kelpie dog. We are a very active family; we love to go on hikes, runs, bike rides, ski, kayak, rock climb and more. I also love yoga and meditation. I moved to Salt Lake for the awesome outdoor scenery and activities to be had. There are 7 ski resorts within a half-hour drive, plenty of trail runnings, reservoirs and lakes, a plethora of national parks within 5 hours drive, hot springs, waterfalls and more.
We also love seeing music, going to museums, farmer's markets, cultural events, theatre and enjoying the city. Salt Lake has all of that too!

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
My home is a darling 1950's home, in a lovely neighborhood with mature Ash trees lining the street. It is located in a quiet, family-friendly neighborhood in the Sugarhouse district. It is 5 minutes from the I-80 freeway, half an hour from 7 ski resorts, and just a few hours from several of the country's most iconic national parks. Right in my neighborhood, there is an amazing community park and half a mile from me, there's the 110-acre Sugarhouse park featuring a large pond with several migrating birds, 10 pavilions, basketball courts, a baseball diamond, picnic tables, a sledding hill in the winter, and running/cycling lane, and two playgrounds.
Salt Lake is home to the baseball team the Salt Lake Bees, soccer team (or football if you're from Europe or Latin America) Salt Lake Real, the Utah Symphony, The Natural History Museum, and more. There are also several hot springs within an hour's drive. There's a big variety of culinary options to dine at. There's lots of music that comes through, theatre, art shows, comedy, farmer's markets, an amusement park 20 minutes from my house, the Great Salt Lake; plenty of things to do!
It is a 1500 square foot bungalow with a big back yard that is perfect for hanging out, barbecuing, playing, relaxing, or meditating. There is a small aspen grove in the back yard, scrub oak and a butterfly bush, plus a picnic table and barbeque. The front yard offers shade in the summer and is a pleasant area to socialize.
The home is two stories. I have two tenants that live downstairs, where there is shared laundry. They are a couple, quiet, respectful and friendly. There is a cat that lives downstairs with them. He stays down there, so if you have any allergies, note that he does not come up to my space. I live upstairs, on the main floor, which has the master bedroom with a queen-size bed; it is a new and very comfortable pillow top mattress. There is also a smaller bedroom with a crib. A twin air mattress can be put in there for you should you need it. The living room has a television, a faux fireplace, a record player, two very comfortable couches and lots of books. The kitchen has a small dishwasher and a gas stove. There is plenty of parking and the use of the car is negotiable.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Our community is one of many friendly families. There is a park around the corner with a big sandpit and playground equipment. Kids bring toys to leave there to share communally. It’s also a good place to play ball or walk a dog.
The homes in my neighborhood were built in the 1950s. They are cozy and well kept. The streets are lined with 70-year-old Ash trees. It’s a very bikable area and many people are out recreating at any given time.
Less than two miles away, there is a shopping area with many shops, a movie theatre, restaurants, bars, a community center with an Olympic size pool and a kiddie pool with play area, and two large parks (Sugarhouse Park and Fairmont Park).

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
It is 5 minutes from the I-80 freeway, half an hour from 7 ski resorts, and just a few hours from several of the country's most iconic national parks. Right in my neighborhood, there is an amazing community park and half a mile from me, there's the 110-acre Sugarhouse park featuring a large pond with several migrating birds, 10 pavilions, basketball courts, a baseball diamond, picnic tables, a sledding hill in the winter, and running/cycling lane, and two playgrounds.

There are also several hot springs within an hour's drive. There's a big variety of culinary options to dine at.
There are many nearby trails for hiking, trail running, and mountain biking. In the winter, you can cross country ski and backcountry ski, as well as ski or snowboard at one of the 7 nearby ski resorts. There is lots of rock climbing, or ice climbing in the winter, golf, cycling options, reservoirs and lakes nearby to swim at, rent boats, go kayaking, fishing, or floating. There are also several yoga studios, a zoo, an amusement park 20 minutes away, museums, fairgrounds, gardens, concerts, restaurants, and shopping galore. Please note, this is Utah and the LDS church has heavily influenced the state to mandate certain alcohol laws. Thus, while you can drink, you must buy alcohol at the state liquor store or show ID while at a restaurant. Many things are closed on Sunday. Recreating in the backcountry is nice because it's usually much more vacant.
Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
There is a couple in their 20s that live downstairs. They are quiet, clean and respectful. I ask that you are the same for them and the house. I prefer no shoes on in the house, especially in the winter. (Slippers are great!) I have a dog that the tenants could watch. If you like dogs, he would be happy to stay upstairs with you.
I ask that you observe quiet hours between 10 pm and 8 am for the sake of the tenants. Please note that I usually wake up quite early, before the tenants; by quiet, I mean no shouting, jumping or loud television or music between those hours. Trash goes out to the curb Tuesday nights. I have many records and books that you are free to use respectfully.
