We are an active retired couple. John used to work in the property insurance business, and then he managed a shopping center near our home that we are part-owners of. Now both he and I are fully retired, I after having served as a campus rabbi at USC, among other places. We love doing home exchange as a way to experience other places in depth.

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
We find that home-exchange partners enjoy our charming 1920s Spanish Revival-style home. It is located in a quiet but centrally located neighborhood bordering Beverly Hills; it's near museums, restaurants, movie theatres, shopping and public transportation; a short trip to downtown, the Pacific ocean, desserts, and mountains. We have a mix of older and modern furniture, quite a bit of art on the walls, a lovely garden with pleasant outdoor dining and piped-in gas bbq, and also a charming Italian-like enclosed patio area for dining. Our gardener and cleaning lady continue to come weekly when we are away. Our "Flat" in the finished garage contains a queen Murphy Bed, kitchenette and ADA-compliant bathroom. We have a portable ramp to handle the several stairs required to enter the front or back door of the house itself. Both bedrooms in the house have queen beds.
A car exchange is possible; we have a 2017 Toyota Prius. We have created a detailed Home Exchange Manual to help exchange partners.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Our neighborhood — Carthay Circle — is both quiet and centrally located. It's an peaceful enclave that's within blocks of major intersections with public transportation, useful stores, and a Beverly Hills park with child's playground, exercise equipment, and tennis courts. The Los Angeles Country Art Museum, La Brea Tar Pits, and Beverly Center are a 15-minute walk away; and the Grove is a 10 minute drive/30 minute walk. This neighborhood is mid-way between LA's increasingly lively downtown and the Pacific Ocean, with Santa Monica and other beaches. There is lots of good hiking/walking within easy driving distance.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
Within a 1.6 mile radius, there are a good hundred restaurants & cafes, a multi-plex movie theatre, the small boutiques of 3rd Street and Melrose as well as the large malls of Beverly Center and the Grove. The major art collection of LACMA is a short drive or walk, as are a good many galleries. La Cienega Park—with its walking/jogging track, child's sandbox and play equipment, adult exercise area outside, lawn areas and picnic tables, and snack bar—is two short blocks away. Also close by is a small shopping center that includes a mailing store, copy & printing store, cleaner, manicure shop, foot and body spas, a fine independent pharmacy, and a popular Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf cafe.
