We are retired teachers who have lived on Hawaii since 2013. Formerly, we taught high school in Southern California (Dana Point area). My husband taught middle school physical education and coached basketball and volleyball. I taught English literature and journalism. We have traveled extensively and done exchanges in Wales, France, Italy, Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand. We love to explore and discover new places. We like to travel at our own slow pace so we can savor each new experience.

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
Our one level townhouse is the perfect place to enjoy all that Hawaii has to offer--with sunsets, spectacular views from our private gated complex, and the best snorkeling in the islands. A five minute drive ends at Kahalu'u Beach snorkeling & surfing area, and along the coast for another 10 minutes brings you to Kailua-Kona town and village with lovely views, swimming and restaurants. Just down the hill from our home is a shopping area with grocery store, book store, restaurants and a theater. The Big Island is remarkable for its volcano, amazing waterfalls, coffee farms, tropical gardens, art colony, etc.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
We live in a very serene, quiet neighborhood. Everyone is very friendly and happy to be here in our small, private complex. The manager and grounds crew keep our environment immaculate with plumeria, gardenias, palms, hibiscus and grassy landscapes.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
From our house it is only a 5 minute drive down the hill Kahalu'u snorkeling beach and another 5 minutes to Magic Sands Beach. The Kilauea Volcano and its village are an hour and a half drive through Kona's coffee country, passing King Kamehameha's Refuge, black sand beaches and macadamia nut farms. Kailua-Kona village is 4 miles from our home, and offers a variety of restaurants, a boat harbor and several historical buildings. Further up the coast, past the airport are gorgeous white sand beaches and many resorts worth visiting.
