I generally travel solo or with a friend. I can work anywhere and would like to live for several months or more in an interesting place. I'm also interested in long weekends or weeks at locations in the U.S. The other family members (twins who are 24 and their little brother, who's 20) occasionally join me. A lawyer and fiction writer, I love where I live -- Berkeley is lively, beautiful and always interesting. It's a wonderful place to stay while you visit the San Francisco Bay area.

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
Located across the bay from San Francisco in Berkeley, California (a convenient 25 minute train ride away from the city), our home is in a leafy Berkeley neighborhood, tucked away on a charming cul- de-sac lined with English Tudors. From our 930s "storybook" cul-de-sac, you can walk to cafes, an independent movie theater, excellent restaurants, a wine shop, butcher, fruit market and bakery. Our beautiful three bedroom home is ideal for vacationing with family and friends.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
The space
In the center of the bustling Elmwood/Claremont neighborhood, but at the end of a quiet cul de sac, you'll find a peaceful refuge. On the ground floor, there's a fireplace and comfy seating, books and games, wi-fi and cable, and an elegant dining room. Or head outside to the patio, where at night you can sit around the fire pit and watch the sky, and during the day you can be lazy in the sun.
At one end of the kitchen is a light filled breakfast nook. The kitchen itself is equipped with every staple you might need to cook -- from balsamic vinegar to brown sugar, sea salt to soy sauce and everything in between. Steps away on the deck is a gas grill and just around the corner is a prolific Meyer lemon bush.
Upstairs are three bedrooms: one with a king size bed, the other two with queens. It's most ideal for six guests. One bathroom has a view of the treetops and a lovely bathtub; the other is a basic, but charming, powder room with a small shower.
The house has everything your group needs for a relaxing trip to the Bay Area.
Guest access
There's an inlaw unit on the lower level of the house with a separate entrance that's occupied by a lovely young woman we're very fond of. Otherwise, and with the exception of the attic, the house and back yard are all yours. There's a washer and dryer in the garage and you're welcome to use it. You can also dry stuff outside on the drying rack and clothes line. \
