Their home is located outside a historic village and open to open views and walking trails right outside the property. Their English home was very comfortable and relaxing for us. We were able to take public transportation to many sites and towns during our visit and learned to be "English" for our stay. We enjoyed our stay, and some time with the family before our departure. It was been a pleasure to know this family and we will remains friends.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
We live just outside of Winchester in an area called Olivers Battery - for history lovers this is where Oliver Cromwell amassed his troops before invading Winchester ! Whilst we are less than 3 miles out of the city we have a countryside view from our home which leads out onto open fields ideal for hiking and biking. We are close to free tennis courts, an excellent Golf Course and a Butterfly Reserve. We are within walking distance to a large Supermarket, a café and antique store, hairdressers, bike shop, Butchers, Dentist, Doctors and Church plus we are on bus and cycle routes into Winchester. Our neighbours are very friendly and keen to help if you have any questions. Olivers Battery is a very safe area with lots of families and early active retirees .People say' hello' and are interested in new comers and there is a good community spirit. Winchester itself is very close with the Cathedral, Great Hall and other historical buildings plus excellent dining, shopping and Farmers market.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
Winchester is a vibrant Cathedral City with about 110,00 population. It has the biggest Farmers Market in England and also has a regular market from Tuesdays to Saturdays throughout the year. Each month there is an antiques and collectables market combined with a vintage market - great for rummaging for treasures! There are many great restaurants, coffee shops and pubs plus lots of unique one-off shops and stores. The Cathedral , the Great Hall housing a 'replica' of King Arthurs table and the history here are a huge draw for visitors from across the globe. There is a good Theatre and Cinema and we have a number of fine Museums. There are many walks around the City, some are led by the Tourist Board and have themes such as Playwrights and writers who have lived here eg: Jane Austin or ghosts and ancient history! We are 15 min to Southampton by car, 30 min to Portsmouth, 40 min to Stonehenge, 50 min to Oxford, 55min to London by train so are well placed to explore the South of England.
