I retired several years ago from a lifetime in Education, I was a Headteacher. I enjoy outdoor activities : walking, cycling, swimming and skiing . I have taken a keen interest in gardening since retiring and spend some time volunteering for the local gardening group. I enjoy music, reading and cinema visits. I go to many concerts and especially enjoy Country music. I also enjoy cultural visits to galleries and museums especially if there is a nice coffee shop. I have travelled extensively over the world but would now like to try the home exchange programme as a way to travel more and see new places. I often eat out at our many local restaurants in town. I am open to exchanges worldwide as well as within United Kingdom.

A beautiful bathroom, nice lazy chairs and a beautiful tasteful decor with lots of art. Barbara is very fond of beautiful flowers and hanging baskets. St Andrews is beautifully situated on the water. The golf course is beautifully situated on the coast. We visited the Scottish Highlands, Cairgorm mountains, the highlight of our holiday!

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
My house is located in a small development of mainly retired residents or second homes. The adjacent home is a second home and is rarely occupied. As the house is rural it is surrounded by farmland which is really peaceful. You get great views of the town from the garden. The town of St Andrews is only 20 mins walk away down a small hill. St Andrews is a fantastic town, a major tourist destination. It is very historical and if you are interested in culture, there are several museums, castle and many other historical sites in town. St Andrews is famous for it world class golf courses (12) . If you enjoy golfing this is heaven but if not, it's good for celebrity spotting on the golf course. There are 2 beautiful safe beaches in town and many others in the locality. Water sports are offered at the beaches by a local company. St Andrews is a thriving town with many independent shops, art galleries, shops, restaurants and bars. There is a small cinema and a theatre, which both offer a good choice of entertainment. There is a Botanical Garden, Sea life Centre, Cathedral and local Country Park. The University of St Andrews is an important part of the town and the students add to the vibrant atmosphere of the town. If you have transport there are fantastic small historical fishing towns and villages along the coast within a 20 minute drive. There is a local train station ( Leuchars ) which links with Edinburgh and Dundee for onward travel. There is also a good bus service linking St Andrews with major towns and cities in Scotland. Edinburgh is only a hours drive away , Glasgow 1 1/2hours and Dundee 20 minutes. The Fife Coastal Path runs through the coastline in St Andrews and provides great coastal walks. St Andrews Cathedral is the final destination for the Fife Pilgrim Trail.
