We are a very happy family of 3, Martin is an IT Consultant. We have been married for 24 years. Our daughter, Mara (18) is studying for A levels and hoping to go to university this October. We have a lively cocker spaniel, Raffles, who is very much part of the family. We lived overseas in Sydney Australia for 3 years and Singapore for 3 years. We still have friends in both places and relatives in California. We have travelled fairly extensively and are very keen to see more of the world. We love walking, and are fortunate to have beautiful countryside to walk in. Martin likes to sail and races an RS Elite at Hayling Island Sailing Club (40 mins away from home). He is very proud of his Austin Healey classic car and we are members of Goodwood Motor Racing Club, attending the 'Goodwood Revival' in September each year. We love music, cinema, theatre and eating out.

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
Our house is set in a semi-rural location in the small village of Old Alresford. We are 1.8 miles (20 minute walk) from the pretty Georgian town of New Alresford, 8 miles east of the Cathedral City of Winchester. Alresford is known as the UK's capital of watercress farming and is the home of the mid-Hampshire Steam Railway, The Watercress Line. The house is 2-storeys, built in 1830's with high ceilings and character. The garden is south-west facing and mainly laid to lawn. We have beautiful far reaching views over fields. Southdowns is a small development of 14 houses in a courtyard setting.
Downstairs we have a large entrance hall, study, sitting room with views onto the garden, kitchen/dining area. Upstairs are 5 bedrooms, 2 with en-suite bathrooms. One of the bedrooms is used as an office and one as a TV room. We have wi-fi throughout the house.
We would consider offering car exchange.
We are non-smokers and our home is a non-smoking house.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Old Alresford is a small village with a pretty village green and stream running through it. There are many beautiful country walks nearby and a pretty walk through fields and watercress beds into picturesque New Alresford which is a beautiful Georgian town known for its variety of independent shops, restaurants and inns, located in stunning surroundings on the edge of the South Downs National Park. Alresford is famous for watercress and 'Watercress steam railway' with the station in Alresford itself. The cathedral city of Winchester is about 8 miles way and there is easy access to the south coast and London via the road network. There is also mainline rail access to London from Winchester (1 hour journey time).

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
From the house you can walk into New Alresford where there are plenty of cafes, pubs and interesting shops. Our favourite places to eat are the Bell public house and the Shapla Indian restaurant. The Globe pub also does good food and has a beautiful garden overlooking a lake. The Long Barn is a 5 minute walk from Alresford with a lovely coffee shop and gift shop, selling its own range of lavender products, as well as beautiful gifts, homewares and clothes. Caracoli on the main street (Broad Street) is a very popular coffee shop/cafe, always busy and a often used by cyclists as a stop off point. Broad Street and East/West Street have some lovely ladies boutiques and gift shops, as well as a butcher/baker and 2 small supermarkets. The Watercress Line is located in the centre of Alresford, worth a visit to see the steam trains and possibly take a trip on one of them. There is also a coffee shop on the platform. The Millennium Trail is a pretty river walk around the town with interesting history boards located along the way. The pretty Fulling Mill along the walk is definitely worth a photo.
OUR HOME EXCHANGE - PLACES TO GO AND THINGS TO DO WHILE STAYING IN OUR HOME
