Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
It's a five-minute walk to the centre of the (small) city of Lancaster and all its amenities, including a classic castle. A castle tour is a must, and the City Museum, Maritime Museum and Judge's Lodgings will give you a good idea of the city's history, from its start as a Roman city, through its later role in the slave trade, and the place where the Pendle Witches were tried and hanged. Everyone's favourite place in the city is the stunning Williamson Park with the Ashton Memorial perched on top - the symbol of the city. Walks along the Lancaster Canal or the River Lune take you into the countryside, while a short drive will take you into sheep-filled hills. A longer drive will take you to some of the most stunning countryside in the UK - the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. Just 3 miles down the road, walkable or cyclable along the river, is the seaside town of Morecambe - birthplace of Eric Morecambe and home of World Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury (you might see him on his daily run along the seafront) - on the uniquely beautiful Morecambe Bay.
