We are a recently retired couple who enjoy making the most of every day! We love the outdoors and particularly enjoy hiking along the coastline, and, if there is a pub at the end of the walk, even better! We also enjoy visiting local beaches, kayaking & swimming. Of course, we love to travel and, having done 11 previous house exchanges, we are keen to explore new horizons!

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Our home is situated in a quiet cul-de-sac on the outskirts of the small market town of Helston. The house backs on to a pretty lane, the starting point for a number of lovely walks which take you past a 15th century manor house and along pretty country lanes or across numerous country footpaths with Cornish Engine Houses ( from the Tin Mining era ) in the background.
Helston is a small market town with a number of historic buildings & a museum. It also has a number of nice cafes, pubs and restaurants as well as several large supermarkets on the outskirts of the town. For the younger members of the family there is also the famous “Flambards” theme park and, in the near-by village of Gweek, the Cornish Seal Sanctuary. A short stroll from the centre of Helston is the large Coronation Park with its huge boating lake (boats for hire), childrens play amenities, skate park and cafe. Here, too, is the start of a beautiful walk through the Penrose Estate (managed by the National Trust) down to the coast & the famous seaside village of Porthleven!

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
Helston is ideally located to explore the best that West Cornwall has to offer! To the south-west, it is less than 4 miles to the popular seaside village of Porthleven with dramatic coastal walks in both directions. The beautiful Lizard Peninsula is located immediately to the south of Helston with famous landmarks such as Kynance Cove and the Lizard Point (the most southerly point in the UK). East of Helston lies the beautiful Helford River (a great place to kayak ) & Frenchman’s Creek which was made famous by Daphne Du Maurier. Further east is the the historical seaside town of Falmouth & plenty of beaches nearby which are great for kayaking & swimming.
A 25 minute drive west of Helston will bring you to Marazion & the beautiful St Michael’s Mount - from there you are only a 10 minute drive to the famous town of Penzance. You are only about 10 miles to the north coast & the beaches of Hayle & Godrevy Point & from Hayle you can reach the world famous town of St. Ives in about 15 minutes. You are truly spoilt for choice as far as dramatic coastal walks, beautiful beaches & tropical gardens are concerned but if you do wish to travel further afield, Land’s End is about a 45 minute drive, Newquay & the Eden Project are each about an hour’s drive & Tintagel is about a 90 minute drive.
Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
We have always believed that the success of a House Exchange depends on the mutual respect of the exchangees and, as such, we would expect anyone staying in our home to show the same level of care that we would show in their home! We will ensure that our home is comfortable and clean and we would expect anyone staying in our home to ensure that it is left in the same condition when they depart!
