We are a young(ish) family with two Daughters Aoife and Erin who are 13yrs and 11years old and Georgi our little very well trained cockapoo dog. We live in a wonderful green and friendly community in Edinburgh a couple of miles from the city centre. We live close to the Union canal which brings you straight to the vibrant city and all it has to offer.

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

We have recently renovated our kitchen and sitting room into a large open plan family room housing a lovely big dining kitchen with a table for 8. This family room has a wonderful wood burning stove which rotates 360° and has two sets of bifold doors opening out to the garden, a decked patio area and an in ground trampoline. We also have a second sitting room/music room if you need quiet time. Hundreds of books, 3 Televisions, 2 Tivo boxes, a PS3, Wii , record player etc..
There is a beautifully renovated Jack and Jill style ensuite accessed from the master bedroom as well as the hall with a walk in shower and a roll top bath. We have a second newly renovated bathroom upstairs also with roll top bath and rainforest shower also.
We have a lovely garden, patio area hosting a Barbecue, patio heater, fire pit and an sunken in ground trampoline which is fab in the nice weather & can also be great in winter if you wrap up warm!! It is Scotland after all.
Our home has a king size Master bedroom plus 2 further double bedrooms. Our second sitting room with a very comfortable double sofa bed if ye need more space. We have an additional sofa bed in the office which makes a comfortable bed for one adult or 2 children. So the house could really host up to 9 people depending on whether you have babies/children/ people willing to share double beds etc...
WIFI, music systems, piano and guitars available for use too.
We have a lovely South facing protected quiet garden with decked patio hosting a large table, outside chairs, Barbecue, patio heater and fire pit. There is a hammock as well as 2 very comfy ergomonic lounging chairs.
For the more playful kids there's is a sunken in ground trampoline, kids gymnastics bars and a gymnastics airtrack. There is also a large children's swimming pool for when the weather is nice and warm which is fab in the nice weather & can also be great in winter if you wrap up warm!! It is Scotland after all.
We have some bikes for usage too stored in the garage.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
We live in the Shandon area, which is close to central Edinburgh. Our community has lots of green space with dog friendly playparks and our street is right beside the lovely Union Canal which houses houseboats, a cafe and further down the canal has a host of bars and restaurants as well as Craiglockhart and Glenlockhart Hills which are a short way away from where you can see the whole city when you reach the top. The area has the cosy feel of a village and is a very friendly community with lots of local amenities from local shops, cafe, bars, restaurants to bigger supermarkets still within walking distance. We are about 2 mins walk to a bus stop which brings you direct to the city centre in about 10-15 mins or you can get to Princes St down the quiet relaxing Union canal path in roughly half an hour. Edinburgh is famous for its historic old town and castle and the Festival and Fringe which last throughout August and when it is extremely difficult to find accomodation. We'd pick this time to travel leaving a great time for others to visit. There is a kayak and canoe club on the canal which offer lessons.
We have extremely friendly neighbours also which is a bonus when you are new to an area

Shandon is a vibrant place with local shops, cafe, hairdressing salons and some very good pubs. We are only a short walk away from the Fountainpark area which has a great multiplex IMAX cinema as well as Ten pin bowling, casino, gym etc...and some fantastic pubs and restaurants if you wanted to stay more locally. But we are also a 2 minute walk from many direct buses which take you into the city in 15minutes. Shandon is also equidistant to both Gorgie which has many local shops and supermarkets and also the lovely Bruntsfield and Morningside which have lovely boutiques, cafes and bars. We have the best of both worlds we think. Edinburgh has also been voted the 4th best city in the world recently so come and swap with us.
