I live alone but have two children and a grandchild. I love gardening, nature, and wilderness. I play bridge and croquet, enjoy contemporary art, and have a huge number of books in my house - you will not be short of reading material! I would really like to go to New Zealand for 4-6 weeks in January 2020 with maybe an add on fortnight in Australia but am flexible on days.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Bristol is a vibrant modern city with a long history. Isambard Kingdom Brunel built the famous bridge over the Avon Gorge and his steamship SS Great Britain is still in Bristol harbour along with the Matthew. My house is a short walk from the Bristol Downs and there is a Nature Reserve at the end of my garden. Local shops are 10 minutes walk: small supermarket, chemist, hairdresser, bistro, fish and chips, Indian restaurant. Waitrose is the nearest supermarket - 10 minutes drive, and there are many others not too far away. The pleasures of a city: restaurants, theatres, shopping, music venues, pubs, art galleries, cinemas, museum, are within easy reach, as is the waterfront. London is an hour and a half on the train.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
Bristol has more restaurants than I can count, several theatres, cinemas and art galleries, and a huge waterfront area where you could easily spend the day and still want to come back for more. The university runs many events open to all, including the Festival of Ideas programme. Three different areas for daily walks are on the doorstep. For a day trip there are beautiful Somerset and Devon beaches, the Brecon Beacons, Avebury and Stonehenge. Wales is 20 minutes across the Severn bridge, London is an hour and a half on the train.
