In Schwentinental you can visit the animal park ("Wildpark Schwentinental") at every day and night time. The public outdoor swimming pool in Schwentinental is an optimal place to refresh and relax (open during summer), indoor swimming pools in Kiel (7 km) or in Preetz (15 km) are nearby.
There are regular buses to the center of Kiel (20 minutes). In Kiel you find big malls, small shops, museums, pubs, bars, and restaurants. One can take a ferryboat to different places alongside the Kieler Förde, and hire boats for sailing and for paddling. During the "Kieler Woche" (last week in June) the whole center of Kiel and its shore turns into a big party place.
Within a 20 minutes car ride to the north you reach the Baltic Sea. (Good bus connections or bike routes are also available.)
To the east and the southeast there are different nice lakes where you can enjoy nature through hiking or biking.
