From here you can take long walks through the forest or wonderful bicycle tours e.g. along the Lauter valley. Kaiserslautern itself Kaiserslautern (some 100.000 inhabitants, 10 minutes to downtown KL by car) offers a wide range of cultural events from exciting football matches (1. FC Kaiserslautern is a famous soccer club) to plays and musicals on stage (Pfalztheater).
Hikers will find wonderful trails in the nearby Pfälzerwald (Palatinate Forest) and in the Saarland. A number of old castles in die area are accessible also by car. The Dahner Felsenland is famous for its empressive rock formations, and from there it's only a stone's throw to France (don't miss out the Fortress in Bitche!).
Visit the German Wine-Route and interesting cities like Mainz, Frankfurt, Worms, Speyer, Heidelberg, Saarbrücken (all of them only about an hour's drive away).
